The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek
Netflix
Once again, we move through the week wondering what to watch when we get home from work or school. There are a lot of options, too many, in fact, but if you want to go by what’s being the most recommended by critics, and oftentimes, audiences, there are four 100% Rotten Tomatoes-scored shows airing that you would be wise to check out.
The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek
Netflix
The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek (Netflix – 100% critic score) – The murder mystery returns after five years, thanks to a recently published book full of follow-up material. The central detectives return to investigate the disappearance of a single mother, along with a series of murders tied to an older cold case. This time around, the killer uses cyberstalking as a tool. Hide and Seek, the second season, has a 100% score, but so does the first season, so check that out as well, even if it’s not fully necessary to watch.
The Dark Wizard (HBO Max – 100% critic score) – The four-episode, four-hour series chronicles the life and death of Dan Potter, a famous climber, BASE jumper and high-wire walker who died in a wingsuit accident in 2015. The documentary, in addition to this 100% score, has a shockingly high 8.6/10 on IMDB, which in the context of that site, is a stellar achievement.
Rivals season 2 (Hulu/Disney Plus – 100% critic score) – After a year-and-a-half break, the period dramedy has returned as of this coming weekend, which is adapted from a 1988 novel by Jilly Cooper. The series is about a rivalry in the British broadcasting space in the ‘80s, which may seem like an unusual topic for a show, but combined with its certified fresh 95% season 1 score and a 90% audience score, yes, this is one you shouldn’t miss. If that’s not enough of a motivator, it also stars former Doctor Who David Tennant.
Devil May Cry season 2 (Netflix – 100% critic score) – The anime adaptation of the famed video game series is back for another season, and it’s put up stellar numbers similar to the first, and on par with big hits like Arcane, Castlevania and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Some game fans say it departs from the lore a bit too much, but the uninitiated say it’s not bad to onboard even with limited knowledge.
From season 4 (MGM+/Amazon – 100% critic score) – I will be recommending this series until the season is over, as it is the best horror show airing on TV and one of the best of all time, putting a 97% score on the board as an average across four seasons, with the last two being perfect 100%s. Starring LOST’s Harold Perrineau, From does channel that island series a little bit with its boundless mysteries, but arguably more forthcoming answers about a town no one can leave, stalked every night by smiling monsters.
