Rafael Amaya will end his run as Aurelio Casillas, as “El Señor de los Cielos” comes to an end with season 10.
Telemundo
Telemundo made a big deal of the return of Aurelio Casillas when it announced the milestone tenth season of El Señor de los Cielos (The Lord of the Skies). Now the network reveals the comeback also marks the end. Season 10 will be the last, confirming a July 2026 premiere for the conclusion of its longest-running, award-winning scripted franchise.
Along with the news, Telemundo dropped an explosive first-look teaser of the final chapter, showing a power-driven Aurelio resurface more ambitious and relentless than ever, determined to reclaim his empire and do things his way: on his terms, no matter the cost.
Rafael Amaya reprises his iconic role as the notorious Aurelio Casillas, two years after Season 9 wrapped its run in 2024. Production kicked off in March.
The Franchise That Built a Legacy
Since its 2013 debut, El Señor de los Cielos has been a huge hit for the network and a cornerstone of Telemundo’s Super Series strategy. The Emmy Award-winning franchise hooked audiences for nearly a decade, known for its high-stakes action, complex characters and cinematic production values.
Reaching a tenth season is a milestone few series achieve. For Telemundo, it is also a full-circle moment, bringing back the actor whose portrayal of Aurelio Casillas helped define the network’s Super Series identity.
“For more than a decade, El Señor de los Cielos has stood as one of the most iconic and enduring franchises in Telemundo’s history, leaving an undeniable mark on Spanish-language television and audiences around the world,” says Javier Pons, Chief Content Officer and Head of Telemundo Studios. “This landmark season honors the legacy of a series that has captivated viewers for years while delivering an explosive conclusion in true Aurelio Casillas fashion.”

The tenth season was also spotlighted at Telemundo’s 2026–2027 Upfront presentation, where it stood out as one of the network’s most anticipated returning properties heading into the new season.
The success of El Señor de los Cielos has extended well beyond the flagship series. Its spinoff, Dinastía Casillas, which wrapped its run in February, ranked as the top program in its time slot among adults 18–49 during its first month on air, according to Nielsen data.
Back to His Roots
Season 10 marks a return to the saga’s origins. After vanishing from his family’s radar, Aurelio resurfaces to reclaim his empire and reassert his legacy, pushing the limits of power, loyalty and survival until he crosses a line that could cost him everything. The new season reveals him as a man powerful enough to conquer the world, yet unable to conquer himself.
Amaya’s portrayal of Aurelio Casillas has become one of the most recognizable in Spanish-language television. It’s a role that has defined his career and one he is now preparing to close for good. The final season also marks Amaya’s first time as executive producer.
“Closing this chapter after so many years is incredibly meaningful, and we gave everything to make this ending worthy of the legacy of El Señor de los Cielos,” he says. “I cannot wait for fans to experience the last part of this unforgettable saga.”
