Ariana Grande’s new single “Hate That I Made You Love Me” is a historic win as it arrives on the charts in America in several ways. The track marks her tenth trip to the summit on the Billboard Hot 100, which lists the most popular songs in the United States. The cut doesn’t work its way to the peak position, it debuts there, which is a feat that only a few decades ago was unheard of, but which is now commonplace.

Most of Grande’s champions on the Billboard Hot 100 have started in that position. As “Hate That I Made You Love Me” wastes no time in leading the charge, the singer and actress ties the biggest female artist at the moment in one historic fashion.

Ariana Grande Scores Her Eighth No. 1 Debut

“Hate That I Made You Love Me” is Grande’s eighth song to start its time on the Billboard Hot 100 in the highest rung. Only two of her leaders – a pair of collaborations with the Weeknd, first “Save Your Tears” and then “Die for You” – climbed the chart and reached the uppermost rung after Grande joined already-established hits by the Canadian multigenre superstar.

Here are all of Ariana Grande’s No. 1 debuts on the Billboard Hot 100.

  • “7 Rings”
  • “Hate That I Made You Love Me”
  • “Positions”
  • “Rain on Me” with Lady Gaga
  • “Stuck with U” with Justin Bieber
  • “Thank U, Next”
  • “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)”
  • “Yes, And?”

Ariana Grande Ties Taylor Swift’s Record

With an eighth No. 1 start on the Billboard Hot 100 to her credit, Grande ties Taylor Swift for the most instant winners among women, and the second most among all artists. Swift only advanced to eight quick chart-toppers – pushing past Grande for a while – several months back. Her single “The Fate of Ophelia,” which served as the first promotional track from her album The Life of a Showgirl, began its time on the roster at No. 1 in late 2025. A little more than a half a year later, the two hitmakers are once again on the same level as one another.

Here are all of Taylor Swift’s No. 1 debuts on the Billboard Hot 100.

  • “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)”
  • “Anti-Hero”
  • “Cardigan”
  • “Fortnight” with Post Malone
  • “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)”
  • “Shake It Off”
  • “The Fate of Ophelia”
  • “Willow”

Drake Has the Most No. 1 Debuts on the Billboard Hot 100

Only Drake has managed to launch more songs at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 than either Grande or Swift. Less than a month ago, he became the first artist to secure 10 such debuts when “Janice STFU,” the latest single from his just-released album Iceman, arrived above every other track. That song held at No. 1 for two weeks until “Hate That I Made You Love Me” pushed it down.

Here are all of Drake’s No. 1 debuts on the Billboard Hot 100.

  • “First Person Shooter” with J. Cole
  • “God’s Plan”
  • “Janice STFU”
  • “Jimmy Cooks” with 21 Savage
  • “Nice for What”
  • “Slime You Out” with SZA
  • “Toosie Slide”
  • “Wait for You” with Future and Tems
  • “Way 2 Sexy” with Future and Young Thug
  • “What’s Next”

Taylor Swift Could Pull Ahead When the Charts Refresh

While Grande may have only reset her match with Swift a few days ago, the latter singer-songwriter will almost certainly pull ahead when Billboard publishes new charts. The country and pop powerhouse recently dropped “I Knew It, I Knew You,” which she wrote for the film Toy Story 5. That track immediately became a sales win on iTunes, and it stands a very good chance of launching in the highest spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
