Citizen Vigilante
Bollfilms
One of the most notable stories in Hollywood right now is what’s happening with Citizen Vigilante, the Armie Hammer action film directed by Uwe Boll that has become a rallying point for conservatives across the US. Those same conservatives have now made it one of the highest-rated movies on Rotten Tomatoes in 2026, and it is currently topping Amazon’s paid VOD streaming list at #1.
At a 94% Rotten Tomatoes audience score, that puts Citizen Vigilante in the top tier alongside other huge hits. A comparison list:
- Michael – 97% audience score
- The Sheep Detectives – 96% audience score
- Project Hail Mary – 95% audience score
- Toy Story 5 – 95% audience score
- Citizen Vigilante – 94% audience score
- Obsession – 94% audience score
On the critic side, there aren’t even enough reviews in for a Rotten Tomatoes score, but with seven in so far, it would have a 14%. A Variety excerpt:
“The film is so astonishingly bad, it almost feels like writer-director-producer Uwe Boll is deliberately sabotaging his star Armie Hammer, whose intended comeback can only be harmed by this project.”
“Astonishingly bad” is something many would associate with director Uwe Boll’s work well before Citizen Vigilante, especially a string of video game movies that often ended up with single-digit scores. But the idea this has harmed Armie Hammer, at least among a certain crowd, may not be true as he acts out a right-wing-inspired fantasy in the film and has received praised for doing so among that film’s audience.

Citizen Vigilante is reminiscent of The Boondock Saints, though instead of killing organized crime figures, he’s killing migrants in Europe, showing assaults and rapes by black and muslim criminals who are then murdered by the a parody of right-wing fury, Hammer’s Sanders. As are those “allowing” this situation to unfold in government.
The film is being lambasted not only for its subject matter but how it works as an actual movie. As a political tool, however, the target audience is willing to forgive the fact that they’re watching a bad Uwe Boll film to give it these high scores, and shell out enough money to shoot it to No. 1 on VOD charts.
Citizen Vigilante’s profile was massively boosted by the world’s first trillionaire, Elon Musk, who, siding with its messaging, streamed the entire movie on X for 48 hours as a way of promoting it to his 240 million followers. That led to the movie securing international distribution shortly thereafter.
It’s a stomach-churning situation for many in Hollywood, though films like this remain the exception, not the rule. Still, the online audience is there for it, and more so than we’ve seen with other attempts (Gina Carano’s Hunter Biden film comes to mind). So yes, it might get a sequel…
