In the music industry, tastes and trends change rapidly. One moment, it seems like everybody is leaning on electronic dance-pop or recruiting rappers to add a verse to a pop song to score a hit, and only months later, the biggest track in America may sound very, very different.
Country music has been making something of a comeback for a while now, and that is clear when looking at the charts. It’s not that Americans ever stopped listening to country music, but as has happened in the past, there was a period when it was very difficult for any artist – even superstars in that field – to rise on some of Billboard‘s most competitive rankings.
2026’s biggest tune is Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas,” which has helped turn the singer-songwriter from a genre favorite into a certified hitmaker. That track reclaims the throne on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, and as it does, another Langley cut and Taylor Swift’s most recent smash help manage a first in the more than half-century-long history of the rundown.
Ella Langley Rules Again With “Choosin’ Texas”
“Choosin’ Texas” returns to the summit on the Billboard Hot 100, lifting from second place to first. Langley’s breakout composition has now topped the roster 11 times in the 36 weeks it has spent on the ranking of the most-consumed tracks in the nation.
“Choosin’ Texas” pushes Swift’s “I Knew It, I Knew You” out of the top spot after two weeks in charge. “I Knew It, I Knew You” debuted at No. 1 less than a month ago, and the Toy Story 5 composition immediately became Swift’s historic fifteenth ruler.
Langley also appears at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Be Her,” the second single from her sophomore album, Dandelion, and the follow-up to “Choosin’ Texas.” Last frame, “Be Her” was pushed down by a pair of cuts from Olivia Rodrigo’s new No. 1 full-length, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. “Stupid Song” debuted at No. 3, while “Drop Dead,” a former No. 1, surged from outside the top 10 to fourth place. Now, both of those cuts backtrack by just one spot, allowing “Be Her” to find its way back to No. 3.
Women In Country Music Make Billboard Hot 100 History
Billboard notes that thanks to Rodrigo’s slight decline and Langley’s gain, this week is the first frame in U.S. history that women fill the highest trio of spaces on the Billboard Hot 100 with country tracks. “Choosin’ Texas” and “I Knew It, I Knew You” have both already conquered the Hot Country Songs tally, which is built in the same way as the Billboard Hot 100, but only sales, streams and radio airplay attached to country compositions play a role in the tally’s composition. “Be Her” has never reached No. 1 on that genre-specific list, as Langley’s own “Choosin’ Texas” has blocked it on more than one occasion.
Ella Langley Charts Five Hits on the Billboard Hot 100
This week, Swift only claims one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, while five tracks by Langley make space. Three of those, including both “Choosin’ Texas” and “Be Her,” appear inside the top 10. “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” a recently released collaboration with Morgan Wallen, finds its way back into that uppermost tier, surging from No. 14 to No. 9.
Another two tracks featured on Langley’s Dandelion – which brought her to the highest space on the Billboard 200 for the first time – also climb from where they sat last time around on the Billboard Hot 100. “Loving Life Again” shoots from No. 42 to No. 35, reentering the top 40. “Bottom of Your Boots” steps up from No. 77 to No. 72.
