Formula 1 heads to the iconic Silverstone Circuit from July 3-5 for the British Grand Prix and the fourth sprint event in the 2026 season.
Last weekend in Austria, George Russell of Mercedes beat Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to the checkered flag by a margin of 1.611s to reclaim second place in the world championship and get back into title contention.
Current championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli settled for third place after a couple of mistakes in the first opening laps, now holding a 40-point cushion over his teammate.
Lewis Hamilton, who entered the Austrian Grand Prix weekend occupying second in the standings, has slipped to third place following his P5 race result and is currently six points behind Russell and 46 points away from the leader.
Heading to Silverstone, both Russell and Hamilton aim to increase the pressure on Antonelli’s maiden title hopes and score the highest possible points on their home soil – with a maximum of 33 points available for grabs for a driver in the sprint weekend.
Meanwhile, Antonelli will be keen to keep a cool head and stay out of unnecessary trouble, and despite coming off two straight winless outings, the Italian youngster certainly has the pace needed to get the job done.
Verstappen is also expected to put up some fight this weekend to score his first victory of the season following his strong display last Sunday where he came 1.611s short of winning on his team’s home turf.
Another Briton in defending champion Lando Norris is also hoping he can replicate last year’s success at Silverstone where he took the checkered flag by 6.812s over his teammate Oscar Piastri, although he knows he will be up against some tougher competition this time around.

F1 British Grand Prix 2026 Schedule
Silverstone plays host to round nine and the fourth sprint of the season this weekend. This means teams will only have one practice session to dial in their cars and gather crucial data.
The sole practice session (FP1) kicks off at 12:30 p.m. local time (BST) on Friday, July 3, followed by sprint qualifying later in the day at 4:30 p.m.
On Saturday, July 4, drivers will battle it out in the 100km sprint at 12 p.m. before fighting for starting grid positions in the grand prix qualifying at 4 p.m.
The main race will kick off at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 5.
