What to watch this weekend.

Explosive showdowns at a Texas ranch. Mysterious post-apocalyptic bunkers. Supernatural serial killers that can transform into vapor. And truly terrible neighbors who should make us all grateful for the neighbors we have (unless you, too, have a terrible neighbor inclined to violence and abuse). These and many more great TV shows and movies await your streaming pleasure this 4th of July weekend. You can find them all in the guide below.
One big title is missing from your friendly neighborhood streaming guide this weekend: MGM’s From aired its Season 4 finale last Sunday. It was pretty good, but it was a capstone to a very middling season overall. You can read my review of the From Season 4 finale right here.
I’ve been on vacation so I haven’t watched a lot, though I finished up the series finale of the British/French detective drama, The Tunnel, last night. It was frustrating, continuing a trend I talked about when I discussed the final season of DCI Banks. I won’t spoil it, but if you’ve seen the show you probably know what I’m talking about. I still recommend watching it if you get the chance.
I’ve also been rewatching my favorite show of 2026, Apple TV’s horror-comedy, Widow’s Bay, with my kids. It gets better with each viewing. You can read my review of the Widow’s Bay finale here.
As I do each and every week, I’ve searched the internet high and low for the best TV shows and movies streaming on Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+ for you to watch this weekend. If you have any recommendations, tips or other thoughts feel free to shoot me a note. Let me know what you’re watching these days, or if you’ve enjoyed any of my recommendations, on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. Be sure to also check out last weekend’s streaming guide below:
Alright, let’s begin . . . .
New TV Shows To Watch This Weekend
Silo – Season 3 (Apple TV)
Set in a dystopian future, 10,000 people live in a massive, self-sustaining underground “Silo” comprising 144 levels. Residents are strictly governed by regulations and believe the outside world is toxic, but the protagonist, an engineer named Juliette Nichols, begins to uncover secrets about the Silo’s history and the truth behind their world. I thought the first season was a bit slow but ended up being a really compelling mystery. For whatever reason, I couldn’t get into Season 2 and still need to catch up. Season 3 airs weekly on Thursday evenings for a total of 10 episodes, with the finale dropping on September 4.
Human Vapor (Netflix)
This Japanese thriller series is a reboot of a classic science fiction film. The story follows a detective and a reporter investigating a series of bizarre, targeted murders committed by an amorphous, vaporous being known as the “Human Vapor,” whose identity and motives remain a terrifying mystery to society. The premise may sound a little silly, but this trailer has me convinced this is a must-watch new Netflix series – terrifying, weird, mysterious. The whole nine yards, as it were. Better yet, this is a collaboration between Japan’s Toho Studios and Korean producer and writer, Yeon Sang-ho, whose work includes Train To Busan, one of the best zombie movies of all time.
Worst Neighbor Ever (Netflix)
Part of a “Worst Ever” true-crime docuseries franchise, this four-part series explores real-life stories of harassment, violence, and criminal activity between neighbors across the United States. Each episode focuses on a different case, highlighting the devastating consequences of these interpersonal conflicts. I was immediately reminded of HBO’s docuseries, Neighbors, though that focused more on the threat of violence between very strange people, and this appears to look at the outcome of feuds gone horribly, horribly wrong. This one has shot up to the #1 spot on Netflix’s most-watched chart.
Dark Winds – Season 4 (Netflix)
Set in the 1970s Four Corners region of the American Southwest, this psychological thriller follows Navajo Tribal Police officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee. The series blends crime procedural elements with the spiritual and cultural landscape of the Navajo reservation as the officers investigate brutal murders connected to larger conspiracies. I devoured the Tony Hillerman novels this show is based on when I was younger, and I’ve been incredibly impressed with the adaptation. The fourth season previously aired on AMC and is now available in full on Netflix.

Memento (Netflix)

This psychological thriller stars Guy Pearce as Leonard Shelby, a man with anterograde amnesia struggling to track down his wife’s murderer using a system of tattoos and notes. He is joined in the cast by Carrie-Anne Moss as Natalie and Joe Pantoliano as Teddy.
I still remember watching this for the first time (which is ironic, given the film’s focus on memory and my own rather terrible forgetfulness). I was at a friend’s dorm in Tucson and had never heard of it, but while my friends were in class they had me watch it on their computer. I was totally blown away. This is still one of my favorite Christopher Nolan films.
Project Hail Mary (Netflix)
Ryan Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, a science teacher who wakes up on a spacecraft with amnesia and must save humanity from a sun-dimming threat. The film also features Sandra Hüller as mission head Eva Stratt and James Ortiz as the voice and puppeteer for the alien character Rocky. I just published a standalone piece about Project Hail Mary’s release on Prime Video because I really loved this movie and think everyone should give it a watch. You can read my review of Project Hail Mary right here.
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy (HBO Max)
This horror reimagining stars Jack Reynor as journalist Charlie Cannon and Laia Costa as his wife, Larissa, whose family is terrorized after their long-missing daughter, Katie (played by Natalie Grace), returns home possessed by an ancient demon. Unlike traditional mummy films featuring sarcophagi, this version focuses on body horror and themes of grief, framing the daughter’s transformation as a grotesque possession story. I haven’t seen this one yet, partly because I only do body horror in small doses and partly because the reviews were mixed. Maybe now that it’s on HBO I’ll remedy that.
New Movies In Theaters This Weekend
Minions & Monsters
Set in 1920s Hollywood, this animated comedy follows a group of Minions who accidentally become silent movie stars before their fame fades with the advent of “talkies”. Two Minions, James and Henry, decide to branch out and make their own monster movie, but chaos ensues when they accidentally unleash real monsters upon the world, forcing the tribe to work together to save the planet.
For a movie about little creatures who can’t exactly talk, the film stars an impressive voice cast including Pierre Coffin as the Minions, Trey Parker as Goomi, Allison Janney as Olivia, Christoph Waltz as Max, Jeff Bridges as Frank and Elwood, Jesse Eisenberg as Dort, and Zoey Deutch as Debbie. George Lucas even makes a cameo. (Trey Parker and Christoph Waltz in the same movie is not something I had on my bingo card).
The film currently holds a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, though audiences are a bit more tepid, giving it a 75%. Still, this makes it the best-reviewed Minions / Despicable Me movie so far, fully 10% above the first Despicable Me film (which came out way back in 2010!)

House of the Dragon – Season 3 (HBO Max)
House of the Dragon

HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, follows the Westerosi civil war known as the Dance of Dragons and the struggle for the Iron Throne between Rhaenyra Targaryen (Team Black) and her half-brother, Aegon (Team Green). The third episode drops Sunday. While I enjoyed aspects of the Season 3 premiere, I found a lot of it to be incredibly frustrating, with baffling changes to the source material and a lackluster Battle of the Gullet. I enjoyed the second episode more, though I continue to struggle with feelings of apathy, or perhaps antipathy, to most of the characters, making it hard to root for any of them.
I’ve watched the first four episodes and it does improve as it gets chugging along, but I obviously can’t speak to the rest of the season (which has eight episodes total). New episodes drop Sundays with the season finale airing on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, August 9.
Dutton Ranch – Season 1 Finale (Paramount+)
Dutton Ranch

Yellowstone spinoff, Dutton Ranch, airs its Season 1 finale this Friday on Paramount+. The Yellow Yellowstone spinoff stars Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler. After their Montana ranch is destroyed by a wildfire, the couple attempts to rebuild their lives and business in Rio Paloma, Texas, where they face opposition from a powerful rival ranch. The series also features a main cast including Ed Harris, Annette Bening, Finn Little, and Juan Pablo Raba. Dutton Ranch has been a big hit for Paramount+ with the season premiere amassing 12.9 million global viewers, making it the streaming service’s biggest original series debut ever. It’s also been a critical darling, with 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, though I still haven’t finished Yellowstone so I can’t give you my own opinion which, as we all know, is the one that counts. Then again, I’m not the target audience since I really can’t stand Beth.
Sugar – Season 2 (Apple TV)
I can think of very few shows with a more shocking twist than Apple TV’s Sugar. It’s such a shocking twist that I won’t spoil it here. The story follows private detective John Sugar (Colin Farrell) as he investigates the disappearance of the granddaughter of a wealthy movie producer in Hollywood. Things get weird. I’m very excited to start Season 2. A total of eight episodes comprise Season 2, with new episodes landing Thursday evenings and the season finale dropping on August 6.
Star City – Season 1 (Apple TV)
Star City

Apple TV’s hit sci-fi series, For All Mankind, explores a “what if” scenario: What if the Soviet Union had landed the first man on the moon, propelling a real space race that hadn’t fizzled out decades ago? Star City takes us to the other side of the Iron Curtain, exploring this hypothetical scenario from the Soviet side. The series currently holds a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score. New episodes drop weekly on Thursday evenings for a total of eight episodes, with the finale airing on July 9.
Cape Fear (Apple TV)

Javier Bardem and Amy Adams star in this television series based on the novel The Executioners and its two film adaptations (1962 and 1991) both of which were also called Cape Fear. The story follows vicious ex-con, Max Cady (Bardem) and his revenge plot against married couple Tom (Patrick Wilson) and Anna Bowden (Adams). The series holds a 76% on Rotten Tomatoes. New episodes drop Thursday evenings for a total of 10 episodes, with the finale landing on July 30.
The Vampire Lestat (AMC+)

The Vampire Lestat follows the vampire, Lestat (Sam Reid), as he becomes a rockstar (Anne Rice based his persona on Jim Morrison of The Doors) and tries to set the record straight via his own autobiography rather than leave history to his old friend and rival, Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) and his infamous interview from Interview With A Vampire. New episodes drop on Sundays on AMC+ for a total of seven episodes, with the finale airing on July 19.
A Woman of Substance (BritBox)
This British drama series follows a woman named Emma over the course of more than six decades of her life, from the 1900s through the 1970s, working her way from impoverished maid to the world’s richest woman. Emma is played by different actresses over the course of the series (Jessica Reynolds, Brenda Blethyn) alongside a cast of talented co-stars. Mystery, drama, revenge…it looks fantastic and boasts a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. The first three episodes are out now on BritBox, with a total of eight comprising the season.
Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed (Apple TV)

Tatiana Maslany stars in Apple TV’s new dark comedy series, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, as a divorced fact-checker who forms an online relationship with a male sex worker and finds herself the target of a blackmail scheme. Things get darker from there. It has excellent reviews from both fans and critics. New episodes drop on Tuesday evenings, with the finale landing on July 14.
