A decade ago, Lady Gaga had proved herself to be not just a pop star, but a certified hitmaker – the kind who was planning on sticking around. By that point in her career, she had already dropped multiple electronic dance-pop full-lengths, won several Grammys and even pivoted to a new style by teaming up with legendary crooner Tony Bennett for the collaborative set Cheek to Cheek.
For her fourth solo album Joanne, Gaga decided to move in a new direction – one which was quite a gamble. While Joanne does feature some tracks that feel thematically similar to, for example, her album Artpop, the set is remembered for its Americana, soft-pop, rock and even country leanings.
Among longtime fans of the superstar, Joanne is a somewhat controversial release, though it did hit No. 1 in countries all around the world and scored the artist a Grammy. 10 years after it was first unveiled, Joanne returns to multiple charts in the United Kingdom, becoming a bestseller once more and even establishing a new high point on one ranking.
Lady Gaga’s Joanne Returns Thanks to a Reissue
Joanne reappears on a trio of charts in the U.K., all of which are built using sales data. Gaga recently reissued the project to celebrate its tenth anniversary, offering it for sale on an opaque pink marbled wax record. Fittingly, Joanne performs best and rises highest on the Official Vinyl Albums chart, where it currently lands at No. 19.
Joanne Hits a New All-Time Chart High
Of the three tallies in the U.K. where Joanne makes space, it only establishes a new high point on the Official Vinyl Albums list. No. 19 marks its loftiest placement yet, and this frame is the first in which Joanne has broken into the top 20.
Gaga launched the set on the format-specific rundown in early 2017, and it debuted at No. 22. After a short break away from the Official Vinyl Albums chart, Joanne returned and spent one more period inside the top 40, and it has not been seen since – until its tenth anniversary reissue dropped.
Joanne Returns to Three Lists in the U.K.
As it hits a new all-time high on the Official Vinyl Albums chart, Joanne also resurfaces on both the Official Physical Albums and Official Albums Sales tallies. Gaga’s toned-down full-length reenters the ranking of the bestselling albums on any physical format at No. 35, and it’s back at No. 37 on the Official Albums Sales rundown.
Unlike on the Official Vinyl Albums chart, however, Joanne does not establish new peak positions on either of those lists. In fact, it doesn’t even come close. Joanne once soared all the way to third place on the most competitive sales tally, and it topped out at No. 5 on the physical register.
Lady Gaga Charts Two Albums in the U.K. This Week
Joanne is one of two full-lengths by Gaga that chart this week in the U.K., and notably, she does not appear twice on any list. Her debut full-length, The Fame, lifts slightly on the Official Albums roster, pushing to No. 55, while declining by only a single rung on the Official Albums Streaming roster. The Fame, which introduced Gaga to millions around the world almost two decades ago, sits just beneath No. 50 in both instances, close to the middle of the two rankings.
