Duran Duran’s Career Is Honored In British Postage Stamps

In the same year marking the 45th anniversary of Duran Duran’s self-titled debut album, Royal Mail is paying tribute to the rock legends through British postage.

The popular group from Birmingham, England, is the latest addition to the U.K. postal agency’s stamp series honoring music acts. In past years, Royal Mail’s stamp subjects included the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen, the Rolling Stones, AC/DC and Iron Maiden.

The Duran Duran stamps will be available for general sale starting Sept. 17.

Each of the eight stamps in the set depicts an album from Duran Duran’s storied discography, including Duran Duran (1981); Rio (1982); Seven and the Ragged Tiger (1983); Notorious (1986); Duran Duran (The Wedding Album) (1993); Astronaut (2004); Paper Gods (2015); and Future Past (2021).

Additionally, a miniature sheet of four stamps commemorates Duran Duran’s live performances, as represented through posters for the Careless Memories tour; the Sing Blue Silver tour; the Astronaut tour; and the Invisible tour.

“From iconic album artwork to unforgettable live performances, these stamps capture elements of the band’s remarkable creative journey while recognising their lasting impact on music and popular culture,” said David Gold, director of Royal Mail’s external affairs and policy, via a Thursday news release from the postal agency. “We are delighted to honour Duran Duran as one of Britain’s most successful bands and are thrilled to celebrate their contribution with this collection of stamps.”

Led by the core lineup of founding members Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Roger Taylor, Duran Duran blended the energy of punk rock and the rhythm and beat of disco for a string of iconic hits beginning in the 1980s, such as “Hungry Like the Wolf,” “Rio,” “Is There Something I Should Know,” “A View to a Kill,” “The Reflex,” “Notorious,” “I Don’t Want Your Love” and “Ordinary World.”

In addition to the music and distinct visual style, Duran Duran became known for their pioneering music videos that became mainstays of early MTV. In 2022, the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Starting in October, the band will embark on their European Free to Love tour, named after the recent collaborative single with longtime friend and collaborator, Chic co-founder Nile Rodgers. The tour will also include a special Halloween show at London’s O2 on Oct. 31 — an occasion Duran Duran has previously done, including at New York City’s Madison Square Garden in 2024.
