Anthropic CEO and billionaire Dario Amodei on Saturday called on artificial intelligence companies to deliberately slow the pace of frontier model development, warning that unchecked growth could enable autonomous AI swarms to hijack global internet infrastructure within the next year amid dire warnings from industry insiders.

Amodei, in an essay titled “We Must Pace the Frontier,“ warned that safety guardrails and regulations aren’t keeping pace with the rapid development of AI—and joined others in issuing a warning of “catastrophic damage.”
Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and founder of Anthropic competitor xAI, agreed with Amodei in a statement on X: “Dario is right,” he said.
