This HBO Max drama won six awards from 25 nominations, and get this: it’s the most of any program at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, according to AP News. Two years running, this medical drama has won for Outstanding Drama Series. And Noah Wyle won for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the second year in a row. The series also won Outstanding Casting in a Drama Series, Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for Ernest Harden Jr., Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, and Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup.

Seven of the cast members were actually nominated in supporting categories, but all seven of them lost, according to the full winners list. One award went to Wyle, who portrays a senior attending, and the other went to Harden Jr., who portrays a patient.

Now, the creator, R. Scott Gemmill, brilliantly used his acceptance speech to talk about the importance of telling honest stories about real human struggles. The cast stood beside him on stage, but here’s the most ironic thing: none of the supporting actors playing the people struggling to learn the job had their own names called that night.

Brittany Allen played Roxie Hamler, a terminally ill mother whose story is threaded throughout the last half of the season. But, interestingly, HBO did not include her on its Emmy submission package. So, here’s what she did: Allen paid the entry fee, submitted herself for guest actress, and even ran her own For Your Consideration campaign on Instagram.

And surprise, surprise, she got the nomination. Now, she did lose to Shailene Woodley, but like the saying goes, she didn’t let the fear of striking out keep her from playing the game. People who get ahead in corporate usually do the same. They don’t wait to be noticed. They figure out a way to put their best foot forward and be seen.

Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, even explained to The Hollywood Reporter that the show includes hundreds of incredible performers, and the network doesn’t have the ability to submit everyone, but he encourages people to self-submit.

Allen still knew that she needed to advocate for herself if she wanted to get on that list. In fact, she recently told CNN that nobody in the industry has your back but yourself. Now, this reality might be a bit depressing, but it’s the truth. Regardless of what profession you’re in, there are incredible managers, mentors, and colleagues who will sing your praises behind closed doors, but recognition most often happens because you stepped out and took a chance on yourself.

How Can You Put Your Own Name Forward?

So, how can you practically be featured more prominently and put yourself up for recognition? Here are three ideas to get you started:

Apply for industry awards and rising star rosters. If you want to make a name for yourself, or at least make yourself more familiar with the decision makers at your company, then applying for these awards and lists will be helpful. Just check the submission page and bookmark the deadline. Normally, you don’t need a sponsor to apply.

Submit a proposal to conferences and events. Throughout the year, you’ll find tons of open calls for speakers, and here’s the good news: you don’t need to be nominated. You just need to research the event and create a winning pitch deck.

Go after an internal award at your company. Now, before you do anything, make sure that you read your own company’s policy, but if everything checks out, self-nominate and show the judging panel why you should be considered.

What Should You Take Away From The 2026 Emmys?

Getting overlooked at work doesn’t mean you have to remain invisible. If you keep getting passed over for promotions and managers keep forgetting your name, then there’s a way to leave a lasting impression.
