‘Lioness’ season 3’s finale seemed to set up a spinoff concept for a popular character in the series, and there’s evidence it may happen.

Lioness fans await news about season 4 renewal, though they may be waiting a while, given that it took 8-10 months to hear news about season 2 and season 3 the past two times this happened. But besides that, there are hopes that something else may be in the works for the Lioness universe: A new spinoff series starring a popular character.
That would be Kyle, played by Thad Luckinbill, who has been in 22 of 24 episodes in the series as a CIA operator. The rule-defying agent has gotten into some of the stickiest situations in the series, and that was especially true near the end of Lioness season 3. So, why a spinoff for him? A few reasons:
- He’s popular but not part of Joe’s core team. This wouldn’t be peeling off someone like Cruz, but rather an outside character who may be there all the time, but is his own unit and branching out to different storylines would make sense. He has already had some supporting teammates across a few seasons who could be ready to go with him.
- Season 3 set this up pretty clearly. During a wild shootout that was technically Joe’s fault, not his, Kyle is reamed by Byron, especially given that he and the others killed an African VIP and her security detail by accident. Byron says that the nation will now do something like demand the US intervene in Mali and suppress the Tuareg rebellion. And he says that if that happens, it’s Kyle’s job to clean up his own mess. So, you have a plotline right there ready to go. I really do not know why they would have put this entire segment of the accidental shooting in the series if this was not a setup for something like this.
- Taylor Sheridan shows have plenty of spinoffs. Two are currently airing right now, Marshals and Dutton Ranch, spun out of Yellowstone. We are also getting Samuel L. Jackson in Frisco King, a companion piece to Tulsa King. A Lioness spinoff on top of these for a really popular show is not hard to imagine.
Then, there’s the man himself. Luckinbill has been asked about the prospect and is on board:
“He has an unwavering commitment to his job and his country. He doesn’t have a family or kids to worry about, so he has a cavalier approach to everything. I love playing someone who feels like he has nothing to lose… Maybe Paramount’s listening.”
Unlike Lioness, a Kyle spinoff would likely not be written by Sheridan, as is the case with those other series. Not that it would be bad as a result or anything, but it’s something to consider. The man is just too busy.
I’m all for this. I’ve always loved Kyle and think he could lead his own show easily. Though of course he would be missed in the main series. Again, Lioness season 4 is almost certain to happen, but it may be a while until we hear that for sure.
