Ella Langley makes history on many of Billboard’s most competitive charts this week. Her hit “Choosin’ Texas” is steady atop the Billboard Hot 100 for a twenty-third frame, and as it reaches that figure, it becomes the first smash in history to do so and breaks out of a tie with Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” at least for the time being.
“Choosin’ Texas” commands the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to nonstop radio airplay as well as unceasing weekly huge counts of streams and sales. The generation-defining win is comfortable once again atop both Billboard’s Streaming Songs and Digital Song Sales charts, and on the latter, the country talent ties the two longest-running singles of all time, which happen to come from the same band.
Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” Reaches 18 Weeks at No. 1
“Choosin’ Texas” earns its eighteenth week atop Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart, which ranks the bestselling individual tracks of any style in the United States on platforms like iTunes and Amazon. Luminate reports that Langley is able to hold her grip over the roster thanks to selling another 6,000 copies of the track, which has catapulted her to superstardom.
Ella Langley Matches BTS’s Digital Song Sales Chart Record
Langley matches a record set half a decade ago by BTS. The K-pop boy band saw both “Dynamite” and “Butter” spend 18 weeks atop the Digital Song Sales chart. “Dynamite” began its run in 2020 and added to its total the following year, while all 18 frames at No. 1 by “Butter” were in 2021. In a matter of days, Langley may break her tie with the South Korean vocal troupe and claim the first 19-week champion in Digital Song Sales chart history.
“Choosin’ Texas” Breaks Its Tie With “Despacito”
Last time around, “Choosin’ Texas” was tied with another one of the most popular tracks of the past decade when it reached 17 weeks at No. 1. Now it breaks out of its recently-formed match with Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber’s “Despacito,” which ruled for 17 periods in 2017 and is now demoted slightly to the fourth-longest-running ruler ever.
“Choosin’ Texas” Widens Its Sales Lead
6,000 copies is a very small sum for the No. 1 bestselling track in the United States, but that figure is actually up from last week. Luminate reports that “Choosin’ Texas” sold a little under 5,800 copies last time around when it nabbed its seventeenth turn at No. 1. Now that figure is up by a little more than 200 purchases.
“Choosin’ Texas” easily beats its closest competition, “Joseph,” a collaboration between the band Falling in Reverse and singers Corey Taylor and Serj Tankian. That tune enters the Digital Song Sales chart in the runner-up rung with 3,400 sales.
“Choosin’ Texas” Dominates Five Billboard Charts
“Choosin’ Texas” appears on 11 Billboard rankings this frame, and it only misses the top 10 on one of them. The country smash dips from its recently established No. 32 high to No. 39 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., narrowly managing to remain a top 40 success.
Everywhere else, “Choosin’ Texas” lives inside the top 10. The track holds at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the Streaming Songs, Digital Song Sales, Hot Country Songs and Country Streaming Songs charts during this historic turn. The country cut also ranks at No. 2 on both the Radio Songs rundown and Billboard Global 200, its loftiest position yet. The tune impressively also appears inside the top 10 on the Adult Pop Airplay, Pop Airplay and Adult Contemporary lists, where it lands at Nos. 4, 7 and 9, respectively.
