Season 29 of Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s South Park, aka South America, returns this week with its second episode after pulling in big numbers in its season premiere.
In an apparent response to fans’ dissatisfaction with Season 27 and 28’s focus on President Donald Trump and his administration, Parker and Stone returned the action of the show to South Park Elementary and Cartman, Kyle, Stan and Kenny in the Season 29 premiere.
The episode, called “South American Biker Gangs,” lampoons the e-bike craze by having South Park’s youths run rampant in the streets with their motorized bikes. Things get really ugly, though, when Randy Marsh and his gang of traditional bicyclists take resort to extreme measures to get the city to implement an e-bike ban.
While Season 29’s premiere episode steered clear of the White House and Trump, the air of mockery was still very much in the ether. After all, Parker and Stone didn’t rename the series South America to skewer Trump’s efforts to change the names of the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario to the Gulf of America and Lake America for nothing.
In addition, the duo gets one more jab in during the show’s opening sequence, which quickly features the South Park version of the president standing naked on a sidewalk and using an American flag like a bath towel.
The second episode of South Park/South America Season 29 will premiere at 10 p.m. ET/PT on cable’s Comedy Central and begin streaming on Paramount+ Thursday on Paramount+ at 6 a.m. ET/3 a.m. PT on Paramount+.
This Week’s Episode Of ‘South Park’ Takes On Data Centers
Judging by the series’ X post on Monday about this week’s episode, Wednesday’s setting will remain in South Park, yet will tackle an issue that cities big and small are dealing with nationwide. Per the episode’s logline, Butters is unhappy that billionaires are trying to build data centers in the backyards of South Park.
South Park Season 29’s premiere episode attracted huge viewership in its return two weeks ago. According to Comedy Central, the show had 4.2 million multiplatform viewers across the cable channel and Paramount+ in its first three days in the U.S.
“The season premiere on Comedy Central outperformed last season’s premiere by double digits on persons 18-49 rating and share and was the #1 non-sports cable telecast for the week with persons 18-49,” Paramount announced in a news release.
New episodes of South Park/South America Season 29 will air every other week this season, with Episode 3 scheduled for Oct. 14 on Comedy Central and Oct. 15 on Paramount+.
