Formula 1 is finally back in action this weekend, with Melbourne playing host to the 2026 season-opening Australian Grand Prix on March 6-8 at Albert Park.
Last month’s pre-season testing in Bahrain offered some early clues about what to expect, with Mercedes seemingly holding a bit of an edge over others.
Ferrari looked pretty strong too – having set the fastest time of the fortnight in Sakhir through Charles Leclerc – while Red Bull and defending champions McLaren are also in the mix.
It’s only at Albert Park this weekend however where we will get to see the true pace and performance of each team as F1 enters a new era of regulations with much-changed cars and engines.
Another thing to look forward to this weekend is the debut of American outfit Cadillac as the 11th team on the grid – the first time F1 has had more than 10 teams since fellow American team Haas entered the sport back in 2016.
The General Motors-backed squad banked on experience in their debut season, bringing in veteran drivers Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas after a year out of full-time seats.
German manufacturer Audi will also make its long-awaited debut in the sport after taking over the Swiss-based Sauber.
On the driver’s front, we only have one fresh face in Arvid Lindblad, 18, who is partnering with four-time world champion Max Verstappen at Red Bull.
