Four singles by Ariana Grande — “Positions, “Hampstead,” “Twilight Zone” and “34+35” — return to the charts in the U.K., as do a pair of albums. For a while, it seemed like Ariana Grande was planning to step away from her music career. She found great success as a movie actress with the two Wicked films, and it felt like overnight, Grande morphed from one of the world’s hottest pop stars into not just a commercially viable, but a critically acclaimed actress – one who even earned her first Academy Award nomination thanks to the musical. Grande quickly signed on to star in Focker-in-Law, the fourth installment in the comedy series, which is coming later this year, but thankfully, she is not walking away from the medium that turned her into a household name.
On July 31, Grande will drop Petal, her eighth album. Lead single “Hate That I Made You Love Me” arrived in late May and is headed for lofty debuts on charts all around the world in just a few days. The excitement around a new Grande era beginning seems to have reminded fans in the United Kingdom to not only return to some of her most popular – and relatively recent – singles, but to purchase them in large enough numbers to turn them into smashes once more.
Ariana Grande Returns With Four Smashes
Four songs by Grande reappear on the Official Physical Singles chart this time around. The tally published each week ranks the top-selling tunes available on CD, cassette or vinyl. The singer-songwriter’s quartet of wins don’t land far from one another, and half of them become top 40 smashes once more.
“Positions” is the highest-ranking return, and it breaks back onto the Official Physical Singles rundown at No. 32. “34+35” comes next at, appropriately, No. 35. “Twilight Zone” and “Hampstead” settle beneath the important top 40 region as they come in at Nos. 45 and 51, respectively.
Ariana Grande Sends Three Songs to the Vinyl Chart
Three of those tunes also land on the Official Vinyl Singles chart, a format-specific variation on the Official Physical Singles ranking. Only “Twilight Zone” misses out on becoming solely a vinyl bestseller. “Positions” sits at No. 25, “34+35” comes back to No. 27 and “Hampstead” narrowly manages to find space within the top 40 as it reenters the sales roster at No. 40.
Only “34+35” Among Ariana Grande’s Hits Has Ruled
Among the four songs by Grande that return to the charts in the U.K. – no other track with her name attached appears on any other roster at the moment – only one has already conquered the tallies on which it appears. “34+35” has spent time at No. 1 on both the Official Physical Singles and Official Vinyl Singles charts. Notably, “Positions,” “Hampstead” and “Twilight Zone” all peaked in second place on both registers, failing to dominate by just one spot.
Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman and Eternal Sunshine Chart
Grande’s comeback on the U.K. chart extends beyond bestselling songs and also includes several full-lengths. Dangerous Woman lands at No. 100, in last place, on the Official Albums Streaming tally. Grande recently updated the digital version on streaming platforms, adding the track “Knew Better Part Two,” which was included on a tenth anniversary edition.
Eternal Sunshine, her most recent project, reenters the Official Physical Albums and Official Albums Sales tallies, where it can be found at Nos. 86 and 94, respectively. Again, both Dangerous Woman and Eternal Sunshine topped out at No. 2 on the charts they appear on at the moment.
