The Toronto Blue Jays have spent much of the 2026 season shuffling veteran depth pieces throughout their upper minor-league system as the organization continues to balance immediate contention with long-term roster flexibility.
And now it seems the team could be moving on from one of those veterans.
Toronto Blue Jays Release 8-Year MLB Veteran After Just 18 Games
The Toronto Blue Jays’ Triple-A affiliate, the Buffalo Bisons, have ended a brief stint for a pitcher who has spent parts of eight seasons in the major leagues and once appeared poised for a much larger role.
According to the official transaction log, the team has released 36-year-old right-hander Jesse Hahn.
The move brings an end to Hahn’s time with the Blue Jays organization after just 18 games with a 6.65 ERA. But when the team added him before the season began, it seemed like he could become a factor in the major-league plans.
“Toronto’s bullpen is more or less set heading into Opening Day, so Hahn is likely just a depth arm the Jays are looking to stash at Triple-A,” Mark Polishuk wrote for MLB Trade Rumors at the time. “The right-hander does bring experience and some innings-eating ability, which is a plus on a Blue Jays team that put a lot of extra miles on its relief corps during last season’s run to the World Series.”
While Hahn represented some experienced insurance for an organization seeking veteran pitching depth behind its established bullpen group, he was unable to maintain his best form from the majors in Buffalo.
Across big-league stints with the San Diego Padres, Athletics, Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners, Hahn logged a 4.24 ERA across more than 316 total innings.
Now the release closes another chapter in a professional career that has stretched far longer than many expected and comes just after he shared his vision for life after baseball.

While Hahn’s release may not generate major headlines around baseball, the veteran pitcher has already spoken candidly about where his priorities stand as he navigates the latter stages of his career.
In a recent profile, Hahn acknowledged the challenge of continuing to play while separated from his family.
“Family, after all, is what Jesse Hahn is all about,” David Borges reported for CT Insider earlier this month. “It’s what he misses most now at age 36, pitching for Triple-A Buffalo some 2,000 miles away from his Arizona home and his wife and four young sons (including a newborn). And it’s what will ultimately lead him to call it a career, one that’s seen him pitch in parts of eight major-league seasons for four different teams and dozens of minor-league outposts.”
For many veteran players, a release simply marks another stop in a long professional journey. For Hahn, it also arrives at a stage when family considerations have become increasingly important and could push him to hang up his spikes for good.
Whether another organization offers him an opportunity remains to be seen. But after reaching the majors, overcoming numerous setbacks and compiling parts of eight MLB seasons, Hahn leaves the Blue Jays organization with a career that has already exceeded the heights that many players never reach.
