Spider-Man: Brand New Day is just shy of breaking box office records set by Avengers: Endgame, given Spidey’s weekend haul, but more than being the end of something, the movie is actually serving as the beginning of an important new chapter in the MCU.
That would be the introduction of the X-Men after Spider-Man: Brand New Day confirmed the rumors that Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink was, in fact, playing a young, confused, dangerous version of Jean Grey in the film. Her powers explode over the course of the movie, she appears to be taking a train upstate at the end, and she’s made her first friend, fellow mutant (of sorts), Peter Parker.
Marvel is now reportedly trying to cast a large number of the upcoming X-Men quickly ahead of D23. Reportedly, many will show up in Secret Wars, but we already know that Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier is doing the full-on X-Men movie after that to begin this new phase in earnest.
As such, rumors and confirmations and semi-confirmations are coming out rapid-fire now. So, where are we at this point with all that?

Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, confirmed – Obviously, the only fully confirmed one at the moment, given that she was literally a star of Spider-Man.

Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, semi-confirmed – The Ready or Not actress has reportedly been tapped for Frost, who would show up far earlier than she ever did in past X-Men iterations. In the comics, she’s in a frequent love triangle with Scott Summers’ Cyclops and Jean Grey.

Odessa A’Zion but probably Cailee Spaeny as Rogue, reported – This is from a few insiders with a story that A’Zion was the original pick, but Spaeny went hard for the role and is now the frontrunner, if she hasn’t already gotten it.

Drew Starkey or Cooper Hoffman as Cyclops, rumored – Outer Banks breakout star Drew Starkey seems to be a current frontrunner for the part. Cooper Hoffman’s name has been all over social media, but at one point he fully denied he was involved in this (it wouldn’t be the first time an actor has done this, however).

Charles Melton as Beast, rumored – This would be Cailee Spaeny’s Beef co-star, and this is a somewhat old rumor, but has not been dismissed as of yet.

Inde Navarette as Mystique, rumored/wished for – Obsession star Navarette has confirmed she has met with X-Men director Jake Schreier, and publicly said that if she played anything, she’d like it to be Mystique. We have not heard anything about that actually happening, however.
BERLIN, GERMANY – DECEMBER 02: Bill Skarsgård attends the world premiere of “Nosferatu” (German title: Nosferatu – Der Untote) at Zoo Palast on December 02, 2024 in Berlin, Germany. (Photo by Gerald Matzka/Getty Images)

Bill Skarsgard or Tom Pelphrey as Professor X, rumored – Skarsgard usually plays villains, most famously Pennywise the Clown in It, and Task’s Pelphrey, a very underappreciated actor, is usually a ne’er-do-well in his roles, so both would certainly be interesting picks.
CANNES, FRANCE – MAY 17: Adam Driver poses during the “Paper Tiger” photocall at the 79th annual Cannes Film Festival at Palais des Festivals on May 17, 2026 in Cannes, France. (Photo by Aurore Marechal/Getty Images)

Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister, rumored – Kevin Feige has said outright that Marvel has been pursuing Kylo Ren veteran Adam Driver relentlessly over the years, but he always turns them down. Reportedly, Driver may end up playing Mr. Sinister, the upcoming villain of the X-Men film, as opposed to Magneto like the older films.
Again, only Sink is confirmed, and the most likely other two are Weaving and Spaeny as Emma Frost and Rogue right now. But it is more than likely that a few of these other ones come to pass, given how many leaks we see for comic book movies now, and we may start to hear confirmation of these actors and roles soon.
