As the years go by, a handful of albums continue to live on a variety of Billboard charts. Some became bestsellers decades ago and have managed to hold on thanks in part to continued purchases, and changes in how the rankings are compiled have also helped. Streaming activity now fuels the ongoing success of many older collections, and Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours remains one of the biggest titles in America week after week.
The decades-old set is one of the relatively few traditional studio albums to spend more than a decade on the Billboard 200, which ranks the most-consumed projects in the United States using sales as well as streams. Only days before the Album of the Year Grammy winner joins one of the most exclusive clubs in the more than half-century-long history of the roster, Rumours returns to multiple charts and rises everywhere else.
Fleetwood Mac Brings Rumours Back to Two Charts
Rumours returns to two Billboard rankings in America this week. The full-length finds its way back to the Top Rock Albums chart at No. 5, immediately breaking back into not only the top 10, but the top five. The set also reappears on the Top Streaming Albums tally, landing at No. 34.
Rumours Surges More Than 100 Spaces
On every one of the other four other charts where Rumours appears – but doesn’t need to return – the blockbuster rises. The Fleetwood Mac classic rockets from No. 37 back into the top 10 on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums ranking, where it sits at No. 6. The singles collection’s most dramatic takes place on the Billboard 200, where Rumours shoots more than 100 spaces north, soaring from No. 135 to No. 29. At the same time, the project steps up on both the Vinyl Albums and Top Album Sales rosters as well.
Rumours Is About to Reach 700 Weeks on the Billboard 200
Rumours has spent hundreds of weeks on nearly every Billboard chart where it settles this frame. The only exception is the relatively newer Top Streaming Albums ranking, which was introduced by Billboard only a few years ago. On that roster, Rumours is nearing that milestone, though it still has a little more than a month to go.
The longest run attached to Rumours is on the Billboard 200, where the set nearly celebrates a historic showing. If the album holds on for one more frame, the Fleetwood Mac classic will become only the fourteenth title in history to reach 700 weeks on the tally. Drake’s Take Care joined that extremely exclusive club less than a month ago.
Fleetwood Mac Charts Two Albums in America
Fleetwood Mac keeps two albums on the U.S. charts this week as Greatest Hits joins Rumours on five of the same rankings. The compilation only misses the Top Streaming Albums tally, but unlike Rumours, it declines everywhere. Greatest Hits drops outside the top 10 on both the Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts. The collection also slips on the Billboard 200, Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums lists simultaneously.
