Dolly Parton fills nine spaces on the U.K.’s 20-spot-long Official Country Compilations chart, with ‘The Very Best Of’ holding at No. 1 after more than 100 weeks in charge. Following her death, Dolly Parton invades music charts all around the world. That is not an unusual sight after a legendary musician passes away, as fans and even casual listeners turn to streaming platforms and digital download storefronts to consume anything and everything the talent left behind. When the artist is as successful and beloved as Parton was, they can quickly dominate important rankings.
This week in the United Kingdom, Parton’s posthumous surge begins. She scores multiple new hits, a number of albums debut on rankings they have never seen before and many of her most popular titles reach new peak positions. Parton nearly fills 50% of an entire chart – one which she regularly rules, though not nearly as impressively as she does this time around.
Dolly Parton Nearly Fills Half of One Chart
On this week’s Official Country Compilations chart, which tracks the top hits collections in the genre throughout the U.K., Parton scores nine winners. The ranking typically features 20 spaces, though oddly, the current published tally contains only 19 this time around. Parton occupies nearly half of the entire rundown. If the Official Charts Company fixes the list and adds a twentieth title, it is entirely possible that the singer-songwriter could wind up occupying that position as well.
Dolly Parton Rules Again With The Very Best Of
Parton sits atop the Official Country Compilations chart with The Very Best Of. The collection is steady to No. 1 this week and it extends its already enormous lead as her longest-running champion on the genre-specific roster. The Very Best Of has now spent 118 of its 426 total weeks on the tally in first place.
Three of Parton’s 11 No. 1s on the Official Country Compilations chart have lived in the top spot for more than a year. In addition to The Very Best Of, Blue Smoke – The Best Of and The Complete Trio Collection – the latter recorded with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris – have dominated for 67 and 54 weeks, respectively.
Dolly Parton Owns the Entire Top Seven
Parton fills all seven of the highest spaces on the Official Country Compilations chart this time around. The Very Best Of is followed by Diamonds & Rhinestones – Greatest Hits at No. 2. That collection is blocked from another stay in the loftiest space by another Parton classic.
The Essential, Live From London, The Complete Trio Collection, Ultimate and Smoky Mountain DNA – Family, Faith and Fables round out the uninterrupted Parton run through No. 7. Six of the superstar’s nine titles on the ranking return this week, while several of the projects that were already present gain quite a bit of ground as interest in her catalog explodes.
Dolly Parton Is Not the Only Star With Multiple Albums
The Official Country Compilations chart may only feature 20 spaces in a normal week, but Parton is not the only act to occupy more than one of them at the moment. Johnny Cash scores three winners this frame with The Essential, At San Quentin and At Folsom Prison, which decline to Nos. 13, 15 and 17, respectively.
Willie Nelson lands at Nos. 12 and 14 with Legend – The Best Of and Greatest Hits, respectively. Ronstadt, who is also credited on Parton’s The Complete Trio Collection, scores another space of her own at No. 16 with Original Album Series.
