Formula 1 heads to the legendary Monza circuit this weekend for round 13 of the 2026 season, the Italian Grand Prix.
Last time out in Zandvoort, defending champion Lando Norris drove his McLaren to his second straight win of the year, beating the Mercedes pair of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell to the flag in the final running of the Dutch Grand Prix.
With 12 rounds in the books, Antonelli enters his home grand prix weekend leading the drivers’ championship by 59 points over both Russell and Lewis Hamilton, who are tied on 183 points for second.
The 20-year-old is eyeing a special victory on home soil – one that would make him the first Italian driver to win at Monza since Ludovico Scarfiotti back in 1966.
However that win seems like a tall order for Antonelli as he will be fighting from the back of the grid due to an engine penalty, having exceeded the limit of four power units allowed in a season.
This situation opens the door wide for Russell and Hamilton to significantly close in on the Italian youngster’s 59-point advantage in the standings. Also, if Norris, currently fourth, manages to carry his strong performance into Monza and clinch a third straight win, he could as well shrink the 83-point deficit he has to the leader.

The 13th round of the season in Monza kicks off with Free Practice 1 (FP1) on Friday, September 4, at 12:30 p.m. local time (CEST), followed by Free Practice 2 (FP2) later in the day at 4 p.m.
On Sept. 5, drivers will climb into their cars for the final practice run (FP3) at 12:30 p.m. before they battle for grid positions in qualifying at 4 p.m.
The 53-lap race will get underway at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6.
