Glen Powell’s Chad Powers is back for its sophomore season on the college gridiron.
Created by Powell (Hit Man, Top Gun: Maverick) and executive produced by NFL greats Peyton Manning and Eli Manning, Chad Powers Season 1 was released in late September 2025. The series was inspired by a real-life prank pulled by Eli Manning in 2022, where, on the ESPN docuseries Eli’s Places the former New York Giants star wore a disguise and presented himself as “Chad Powers” during a walk-out tryout session for the Penn State Nittany Lions.
In Chad Powers Season 1, Powell stars as Russ Holliday, whose college football career and beyond is derailed by a horribly stupid on-field incident. Eight years later, Russ attempts to resurrect his career and livelihood by disguising himself as “Chad Powers” to land a spot as a quarterback on the struggling South Georgia Catfish college football team.
At the end of Chad Powers Season 1, the Catfish’s offensive assistant coach, Ricky Hudson (Perry Mattfield), discovers Chad’s true identity. Season 2 finds Ricky’s father, Coach Jake Hudson (Steve Zahn) is suspicious of Chad, and time is running out before his lie is exposed. The only person who can help Chad out of the jam is Ricky, and she’s none too happy about it.
Also executive produced by Powell and Michael Waldron, Chad Powers Season 2 also stars Quentin Plair, Frankie A. Rodriguez and Wynn Everett.
Chad Powers Season 2 premieres on Wednesday on Hulu on Disney+ as a binge-watch with all of its six episodes dropping at the same time. Season 2’s episodes will be released on Wednesday at 3 a.m. ET/12 p.m. PT on Hulu on Disney+.
For viewers who don’t subscribe to Hulu, it is only available as a bundle package with Disney+. The ad-based tier of the Hulu on Disney+ bundles costs $12.99 per month, while the ad-free tier costs $19.99 per month.
What Are Individual Critics Saying About ‘Chad Powers’ Season 2?
While the review embargo for Chad Powers Season 2 lifted at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT on Tuesday, and in early reviews, the sophomore season has still not been assigned a critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer, as only four reviews have been posted so far, and all are “fresh.”
Felipe Rangel of ScreenRant is among RT’s critics who give the new season of Chad Powers a “fresh” score, writing, “Chad Powers season 2 picks back up on those plot threads, crafting an easy-to-follow ride filled with hilarious moments, emotional conversations, intriguing arcs, and a shocking final stretch.”
Cristina Escobar of RogerEbert also deems Season 2 of Chad Powers “fresh,” writing in her RT review summary, “No, it doesn’t make any sense. But rehabilitating a selfish failure who’s finally ready to change feels so good.”
Carly Lane of Collider also gives the new season of Chad Powers a “fresh” score, writing on RT, “The biggest question hanging over Chad Powers by the end of Season 2 isn’t whether the Catfish will get to hoist that national championship trophy at the end of it all, but whether viewers will still be rooting for them to even make it that far.”
Should the “fresh” trend continue, it will mark a big improvement in positive reviews over Chad Powers Season 1. The freshman season of the Glen Powell series earned a 60% “fresh” critics’ score — one point above “rotten” — based on 52 reviews, while audiences awarded it an 84% “fresh” Popcornmeter score based on 500-plus verified user ratings.
All six episodes of Chad Powers Season 2 drop on Hulu on Disney+ at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT on Wednesday, while all six episodes of Season 1 are currently available to stream on the platform.
