The Los Angeles Dodgers have become one of baseball’s most successful franchises under an ownership group that has helped turn the club into a financial and competitive powerhouse.
But the team’s owners are facing scrutiny as Mark Walter has been subject to a federal probe regarding his business practices. And now another owner is under the spotlight for his political spending, particularly in Los Angeles, where immigration enforcement under the Trump administration remain deeply contentious issues.
Los Angeles Dodgers Owners Faces Scrutiny From Local Fans For MAGA Political Support
According to Jarrett Carpenter of Los Angeles Public Press, campaign finance records from the Federal Election Commission show Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly donated a total of $2 million to MAGA Inc., a political action committee that financially backs the president and Trump-aligned candidates, between December of 2024 and 2025.
Now, Boehly is spending to support several Republican congressmembers in the November midterms. Since April, Boehly has donated a combined $23,100 to the re-election campaigns of four Republican U.S. House of Representatives members in competitive districts in Pennsylvania, FEC records show, per Carpenter.
And those donations have drawn criticism from several community advocates in Los Angeles, including Jose Madera, director of the Pasadena Community Job Center and a lifelong Dodgers fan, who pointed to recent violence surrounding the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) crackdowns in Los Angeles.
“Whether it be a player, manager or owner, actions reflect the team,” Madera told Carpenter. “Seeing all this violence that is happening at the hands of ICE, and then hearing that owners from our beloved Dodgers are sending money to Trump’s administration … that is very disappointing.”
Madera added that the upcoming midterm elections could affect federal funding for ICE and the Department of Homeland Security, issues he believes could have direct consequences in the Dodgers’ home city.
Los Angeles Dodgers Remain One Of MLB’s Most Valuable Teams Amid Owner Scrutiny
Boehly is also not the only Dodgers owner whose business relationships have attracted scrutiny. Walter had faced criticism over financial ties involving companies connected to immigration detention and technology used by federal immigration authorities well before news of the federal probe surfaced.
Boehly owns a minority stake in the Dodgers alongside Walter. He previously served as president of Guggenheim Partners before founding Eldridge Industries in 2015.
The political controversy surrounding ownership comes against the backdrop of an extraordinary period for the franchise, though Dodgers’ standing ownership appears to be in place amid the issues.
“There have been no reports of Boehly and Walter entertaining offers for their stakes in the Los Angeles Dodgers ownership group,” FOX Sports reported. “The Dodgers have won back-to-back World Series titles and are valued at $7.8 billion.”
That combination of sustained success and enormous financial value means the Dodgers remain one of baseball’s most prominent organizations, regardless of the political activity of individual owners.
