In the United Kingdom, a song that mounted a surprise comeback earlier this year, one which has yet to even break into the top 10 in the country, ties as one of her sturdiest smashes as its viral resurgence continues.
Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away” Holds as a Hit in the U.K.
As of this period, Perry’s “The One That Got Away” has spent 49 weeks on the Official Singles chart in the U.K., which details the 100 most popular songs of any style in the country. The roster is built using both sales and streaming data, but it is clicks on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music that are keeping the Teenage Dream single alive in that nation.
“The One That Got Away” Ties “Roar”
As “The One That Got Away” reaches 49 turns on the Official Singles chart, it matches “Roar” as Perry’s second-longest-running hit in the U.K. Only “Firework,” with 68 frames on the rundown, has held on for longer.
Last time around, “The One That Got Away” was matched with another hit in the singer’s discography as her third-longest-charting track. Now, the viral win has broken out of its tie with “Dark Horse,” a collaboration with Juicy J, which appeared on the competitive tally for 48 stints.
“The One That Got Away” Rises Again
“The One That Got Away” debuted on the Official Singles chart in October 2011, and by January of the following year, it climbed to its No. 18 high point. That position still holds as the loftiest space the track has ever reached in the U.K.
“The One That Got Away” fell off the Official Singles tally in May 2012, but returned suddenly in May of this year after going viral on TikTok. The cut has been present ever since, and this frame rises from No. 32 to No. 29.
Simultaneously, the song inches from No. 65 to No. 61 on the Official Streaming chart, celebrating a milestone 20 periods as one of the 100 most-played cuts in the U.K.
Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream Climbs on Two Charts
“The One That Got Away” was initially featured on Perry’s sophomore album, the blockbuster Teenage Dream, which this frame climbs on both the Official Albums and Official Albums Streaming charts. The full-length advances to No. 43 on the former ranking and No. 33 on the latter. Teenage Dream recently passed 500 weeks as one of the most-streamed collections in the U.K., and this frame the title celebrates 450 turns on the main albums ranking.
Katy Perry’s Greatest Hits Collection Remains a Top 10 Success
“The One That Got Away” also seems to power Perry’s first greatest hits compilation, The Ones That Got the Plays, which can be found on the same two rosters as Teenage Dream.
The Ones That Got the Plays – released earlier this year to bolster the viral cut of almost the same name – holds inside the top 10, even as it slips one rung on the Official Albums Streaming chart, dipping to No. 8, just two spaces beneath its all-time high of No. 6. At the same time, the collection declines by only one rung on the Official Albums chart, dipping to No. 14.
