Angel Studios expanded Young Washington’s streaming footprint on Thursday when it premiered on Prime Video, but you’ll need more than an Amazon subscription to see it.
Directed by House of David creator Jon Erwin, Young Washington opened in theaters on July 3, before it shifted to digital streaming via premium video on demand and became available to stream on Angel Studios’ website (for Angel Guild members) on Aug. 11.
William Franklyn-Miller stars in the title role of Young Washington, where he plays the future first president of the U.S. in his formative years. The film examines how a single misstep by George Washington thrusts the then-young soldier into the middle of a global conflict.
Rated PG-13, Young Washington also stars Mary-Louise Parker as George Washington’s mother, Mary Washington, as well as Kelsey Grammer as Lord Fairfax, Ben Kingsley as Robert Dinwiddie and Andy Serkis as General Braddock.
A faith-based studio that produces family-focused films and television programming, Angel Studios requires an Angel Guild membership to view the studio’s content on its website. Prior to the studio’s 2025 animated hit The King of Kings, Angel Studios’ film releases would only stream on the Angel platform following their run in theaters.
In May 2025, however, Angel began to broaden its home video access when it released The King of Kings on digital streaming via premium video on demand. Young Washington continued that trend when it was released on both PVOD in August and as Angel continues to expand its reach, the film has yet another streaming home.
However, since Young Washington was also produced by Wonder Project, the film will now be available on another subscription streaming service apart from Angel, where it is currently No. 1 on the site’s Top 10 most streamed movies list.
Wonder Project’s Platform Can Only Be Accessed Through Prime Video
Prime Video, of course, is the bonus streaming platform available for free to Amazon Prime subscribers, where viewers can watch original Prime Video programming like Reacher and Amazon MGM films like Project Hail Mary after they are done playing in theaters.
In addition, Prime Video offers films for purchase or rent on PVOD after they shift from theaters to streaming, as well as subscription add-ons to a variety of other streaming services. One of those services is Wonder Project, but unlike other platforms, it is available only through Prime Video for an additional cost.
Wonder Project is an ad-free subscription platform that costs $8.99 per month or $89.99 annually. Like the Angel Studios platform, film and television offerings on Wonder Project are faith-based projects that have high-quality, values-driven storytelling. In addition to movies like Young Washington, Wonder Project carries such series as Jon Erwin’s hit biblical series House of David.
Young Washington earned more than $47.1 million at the worldwide box office during the film’s theatrical run, with $47 million of that tally coming from domestic ticket sales. Young Washington had a production budget of $20 million before marketing costs, according to box office tracker The Numbers.
Young Washington earned a 59% “rotten” critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer based on 59 reviews. The film scored significantly higher with audiences on RT, however, with a 92% “fresh” Popcornmeter score based on 1,000-plus verified user ratings.
For viewers who want to see Young Washington and are not subscribers to Angel or Wonder Project, the film is still available for purchase or rent on video on demand on such platforms as Apple TV, Fandango at Home and Prime Video.
