The Philadelphia Phillies entered the postseason hoping to extend a competitive window that has already produced some deep October runs, but their latest opportunity ended abruptly against a familiar division rival.
The Atlanta Braves eliminated the Phillies with a blowout victory in Game 3 of the National League Wild Card Series, sending the Braves to a Division Series matchup with the reigning World Series champions.
“It will be the NL East champion Atlanta facing the NL West champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Division Series,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported. “Atlanta eliminates Philadelphia, 6-2.”
The loss also brought an important question into focus for Alec Bohm, whose future in the sport remains uncertain. After the final game, the impending free agent made clear that he would like to remain with the organization.
“I definitely feel like we have unfinished business here, and I want to be a part of the team that gets it done, for sure,” Bohm said, according to Phillies Nation’s Ty Daubert.
Philadelphia Phillies’ Former All-Star Alec Bohm Offers Response On Team Exit
Bohm’s Phillies career has included considerable highs and lows since Philadelphia selected him third overall in the 2018 MLB Draft. He became an All-Star in 2024, but inconsistent production and repeated questions about his place on the roster have made him a central figure in trade rumors.
This season, the Phillies changed his defensive role after acquiring Luis Arraez at the trade deadline, moving Bohm from third base to first base as the club adjusted its alignment. That move was part of another roller coaster campaign for Bohm, which saw a brutal start turn into a productive finish at the plate.
“Bohm’s Phillies career has been sometimes frustrating, sometimes exciting, sometimes perplexing,” Charlotte Varnes noted for The Athletic. “But the best adjective to describe Bohm’s 2026 is tumultuous.”
Philadelphia Phillies Face Major Alec Bohm Decision After Brutal Elimination
Bohm’s comments came after he delivered one of the biggest moments of Philadelphia’s postseason run. He hit the go-ahead home run in the 10th inning of Game 2 against Atlanta, helping the Phillies force a decisive third game. That performance gave him another opportunity to influence the club’s postseason fate after a season filled with questions about his future.
His desire to stay also comes after months of uncertainty surrounding whether the Phillies would look to keep him around into the future. Allowing him to sign a contract with a new team could be one of the easiest ways to adjust a roster that appears to be in need of an overhaul.
For now, there is no indication that Philadelphia has made a decision on Bohm’s future. His final message, however, was unmistakable: after a notable run with the Phillies, he wants the chance to keep building his career in the same place.
