A New List Of DCU Films Already In Development, From Batman To Wonder Woman

James Gunn is still running the DCU, and we have a shortlist of what movies are actually in production at the moment, from Batman to Wonder Woman.

Warner Bros. and Paramount have now combined into Skydance, a result of an enormous merger. The studio is now settling on what projects are or are not being made going forward, but one thing has been confirmed: DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are sticking around, as is their vision for the DCU, having been told to “keep doing what you’re doing” by Skydance’s David Ellison.

Now, new reporting from Deadline shows exactly what films are in production across the whole studio slate, and that also confirms a number of DCU films, though they are all in “early” production, a far-out category. Those are:

• Batman: The Brave and the Bold – The fabled arrival of Batman in the DCU based on a comic run. Rumors have spread about who will play Batman in the DCU but nothing concrete has emerged. The film appears to still be helmed by Andy Muschietti, who did The Flash in the DCEU. Some suspect that James Gunn could be writing the script, as he recently said he’d begun on his next project. Batman’s DCU arrival is the key moment in the new universe, as it will occur opposite the continued tenure of Robert Pattinson in the parallel The Batman universe run by director Matt Reeves.
• Savage Hunters, The Bane and Deathstroke movie – Another villain-focused movie that will follow in the footsteps of Clayface, which is out in just two weeks on October 23. No casting has been announced, but it follows in the tradition of James Gunn focusing on villains as antiheroes, as he’s done across Suicide Squad, Peacemaker and Creature Commandos.

• Wonder Woman – The third pillar of DC has been the focus of much conversation based on the fact that it appears that Diana has been cast in the form of Adria Arjona, who will have a cameo in Man of Tomorrow. This is not confirmed and occasionally denied, but few believe that it’s not happening. The script is being written by Ana Nogueira, who did Supergirl, which some are nervous about.
• Teen Titans – This was also being written by Nogueira, whom James Gunn seems to have an immense amount of faith in. Reportedly, this was pushed back in order for her to concentrate on writing Wonder Woman first, which would presumably be released first as a result.
• Swamp Thing – I actually had no idea this was in the works; the last time we heard about the character being a canceled-after-one-season series on the ill-fated DC Universe streaming service, a somewhat bizarre experiment from 2018 which only lived to 2021. The thing was, Swamp Thing was actually quite good with a 92% critic score. Better than anything else on the service, at least. Now it’s returning in some form.

The DCU has already scrapped a few projects, like James Gunn publicly confirming The Authority movie was dead. An Amanda Waller TV series may not happen. Creature Commandos is meant to return for season 2, but we have no date on that. The just-finished Lanterns has not been renewed for season 2 on HBO Max, but it is almost a sure thing.

Batman and Wonder Woman are the key projects there. We have Clayface in two weeks and Man of Tomorrow in summer 2027, but past that, we just don’t know which of these will release first, if all of them actually make it to market, that is.
