The Los Angeles Dodgers are moving one step closer to another World Series appearance after advancing through the National League Division Series, but their work is far from finished. The Milwaukee Brewers have emerged from their own hard-fought series to set up a rematch between two of the National League’s strongest teams, giving Los Angeles another challenge as it pursues a third consecutive championship.

“For the second straight year, the Brewers will play for the pennant,” Adam McCalvy wrote for MLB.com. “And for the second straight year, the Dodgers are standing in the way.”

With the National League Championship Series approaching, Los Angeles has made a roster move involving a familiar arm who spent much of the regular season working out of its bullpen.

Los Angeles Dodgers Reunite With Key Veteran Immediately Before Milwaukee Brewers NLCS

The Dodgers recalled right-handed pitcher Kyle Hurt from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, according to the official transaction log.

The move brings back a pitcher who appeared regularly for Los Angeles during the 2026 regular season and in 2024 as well, although it does not guarantee that he will be included on the team’s NLCS roster.

“This is the second call-up that the Dodgers made during the postseason, as Emmet Sheehan was previously recalled,” New Baseball Media noted. “The right-hander saw significantly more rope in the regular season, as Hurt worked in 44 games this season for the Dodgers. He struck out 58 over 45.2 IP during the regular season with Los Angeles. However, he pitched in only three games during September before the Dodgers optioned him at the end of the regular season.”

Hurt finished the regular season with a 4.14 ERA across 45 and two-thirds innings. His experience could offer the Dodgers another option as they prepare for a series against a Milwaukee team that has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to win close postseason games.

The recall follows Hurt’s September 23 option to Oklahoma City. His return gives Los Angeles additional pitching depth, but the Dodgers will still need to decide how their available arms fit into the next round.

Recalled Veteran Could Give Los Angeles Dodgers Bullpen An Edge Against Milwaukee Brewers In NLCS

Hurt, a fifth-round pick by the Miami Marlins in the 2020 MLB Draft, joined the Dodgers organization before making his major-league debut in September 2023. His ability to work in relief has given Los Angeles another pitcher to consider as it manages its staff through October.

The timing of the move is notable. Milwaukee won 103 games during the regular season and eliminated the San Diego Padres in four games, while Los Angeles dispatched the Atlanta Braves to advance. The Brewers’ ability to generate offense and rely on their bullpen makes depth particularly valuable for the defending champions.

Hurt’s recall could give the Dodgers another familiar option as they prepare for a matchup in which every available pitcher could matter.
