Slovakian singer Adela Jergova, who releases music as a mononym, Adela, spent years finding her way into the music industry. She first competed in a reality singing series titled Dream Academy, which was also adapted into Netflix’s Pop Star Academy: Katseye. That program would go on to create the Grammy-nominated girl group Katseye, but she was not selected for the band.
In these kinds of reality situations, many contestants who don’t end up winning are never heard from again, but that’s not the case with Adela. This week, the 22-year-old dancer and singer debuts her first full-length Prima on multiple Billboard charts, and she rules several tallies with the project.
Adela’s Prima Debuts at No. 1 on Two Charts
Prima launches at No. 1 on half of the four Billboard rankings on which it appears this frame. The set opens atop both the Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums charts. Prima arrives with 30,900 purchases, according to Luminate. That figure includes what must be a sizable number of vinyl records, since Adela claims the bestselling title on wax in America, as well as CDs and digital downloads.
Adela beats this week’s runner-up on the Top Album Sales tally, This & That by Stray Kids, by more than 3,500 pure purchases.
Prima Launches Inside the Billboard 200 Top Five
Prima also launches within the highest tier on the Billboard 200, ranking as the fourth-most-consumed project of any genre in the nation. It is only on the Top Streaming Albums roster where Prima fails to break into the top 10. On that tally, which focuses entirely on the most-played collections of any length or style in the United States via platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and others, Prima gets off to a No. 14 start.
Adela’s “Ain’t in L.A.” Reaches New Peaks
As Prima launches in impressive positions on a variety of Billboard tallies, especially for a new artist, the two most recent singles from the set are on the rise as well. “Ain’t in L.A.,” which was released back in July, breaks into the top 10 for the first time on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. It jumps from No. 35 to No. 9 on the list that does incorporate American consumption and from No. 30 to No. 10 on the tally that purposely excludes it.
“Ain’t in L.A.” also shoots up the Billboard Hot 100, surging from No. 57 to No. 30, marking a new high point. It also is now a streaming smash in the U.S., debuting at No. 21 on the Streaming Songs rundown.
Adela’s “Nicole Kidman” Debuts on Four Charts
Adela claims two spots on all four of those rankings. “Nicole Kidman,” which has been selected as the fourth single from Prima, debuts on the Streaming Songs, Billboard Hot 100, Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts, starting its time on those tallies at Nos. 42, 45, 59 and 82, respectively.
Adela Scores Two Hot Dance/Pop Songs Top 10s
One more tune featured on Prima’s tracklist becomes a brand new hit in America this week. “Boys” launches inside the top 10 on the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart, where Adela claims two spots.
“Boys” wrangles a No. 8 start, while “KGB” helps Adela land a pair of top 10s simultaneously. That track, which appears on the Hot Dance/Pop Songs tally for only the second time, reenters at a new peak of No. 10.
