Reacher season 4 ended with a lot of gunfire and blood loss on Wednesday, wrapping up a storyline that reached higher up into the government than the show has gone before. Now, fans are wondering when Reacher season 5 will be out, and we know enough information to approximate.
When is the Reacher season 5 release date?
I ran this math a short while ago, based on season 4 data and announced production schedules. And it’s good news:
- “Production on Reacher season 4 began in June 2025 and ran until November 2025. Season 4 began airing on August 12, 2026. That’s a 16-month gap from production start to the show airing.
- We know that production on Reacher season 5 started on July 21, 2026. It’s meant to finish up in December, and if the 16-month gap holds, that would be a release date sometime in September 2027.
- That means Reacher season 5 would be only 13 months after season 4, given that production started before season 4 even aired, thanks to its early renewal.”
If those dates hold, this would be the shortest wait between Reacher seasons, with the previous gaps being 22, 14 and 18 months for the show so far. Even if it’s pushed a little, it should not be much more than a year, which is excellent in the grand scheme of streaming. That’s especially great for Amazon, given that Reacher is one of its most popular shows. It does have blockbuster action, but not wild blockbuster visuals like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, for instance.
Like other shows that manage these short gaps, the key is early renewals and early filming dates. In this case, Reacher season 5 production started before season 4 even aired. The show is now adapting Make Me, the 20th book in the Reacher series, as the show and novel run is designed to be viewed in really any order with these mostly standalone stories as Reacher wanders around the country, attracting trouble like a magnet.
I think that it was probably a mistake to drop all eight episodes of the Reacher spinoff Neagley on the same day as the season 4 finale. That may be an attempt to use the show as a lead-in, but it’s a risk to do with the binge-drop idea. The show is reviewing well with a verified fresh 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, just a bit below most Reacher seasons. Of course, the question is if it will get the viewership to warrant further seasons. I was a bit surprised Neagley wasn’t in season 4 of Reacher at all, given that it may have served as a better kind of lead-in. But we’ll see how she does on her own. So far so good, as she’s the #2 show on Amazon, right behind Reacher itself.
