The Los Angeles Angels have spent years trying to build a contender around Mike Trout, one of the greatest players of his generation. But as the club continues to battle inconsistency in the standings and Trout suddenly deals with yet another injury setback, speculation about his future has predictably resurfaced.
And, often, those rumors often lead back to the same destination.
Trout grew up in southern New Jersey and has long been linked to the Philadelphia Phillies whenever discussions emerge about a potential trade — seemingly every year.

Ultimately, though, it seems as if neither Trout nor his team is moving closer toward trading him to a contender like the Phillies.
According to the latest report on the likelihood of a deal that moves the superstar slugger, there is “no interest” on the Angels’ side.
“The reality, whether folks in Philadelphia or anywhere accept it or not, Trout and his family of four are quite comfortable in Southern California, and aren’t going anywhere,” Bob Nightengale reported for USA Today. “He’s not asking for a trade. Angels owner Arte Moreno has no interest in trading him. And with $140 million still remaining on his contract after this season, opposing GMs don’t even bother calling.”
Still, those realities didn’t stop Trout from sending a positive message about his hometown as he looked to attend the All-Star game at Citizens Bank Park this season.
“It feels awesome,” Trout said of his season so far, after several successive years of setbacks, per Nightengale. “You know being able to play every day and just go out there and just play, and obviously playing center field, and being in Philly, it’d be pretty cool to go play there.”
Shortly after he sent that message, though, Trout was placed on the injured list with a hamstring strain.

While Trout sounded optimistic about his chances of playing outfield in the upcoming All-Star game in Philadelphia, the latest injury setback might have derailed those plans.
“The Los Angeles Angels placed center fielder Mike Trout on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a right hamstring strain,” ESPN reported. “Trout said he suffered the injury while running to first base during Wednesday’s victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He hit a home run and had three RBIs in the game.”
While injuries have limited Trout’s availability in recent seasons, they have done little to diminish his stature around the game. The 11-time All-Star remains one of baseball’s biggest stars, and any mention of Philadelphia is enough to reignite speculation.
For now, though, Trout’s comments appear more reflective than predictive. He may think it would be “pretty cool” to play in Philadelphia, but all signs continue to point toward him remaining with the Angels and, now that he’s been injured again, perhaps missing out on a competitive American League outfield competition for the All-Star game.
