Beyoncé’s ‘B’Day’ returns to multiple U.K. as a twentieth-anniversary edition and reenters the Official Hip Hop and R&B Albums chart at No. 1. When Beyoncé released her first solo album Dangerously in Love, she was still a member of Destiny’s Child. The vocal group had not yet split, though the three members — Beyoncé alongside Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams — were pursuing projects on their own. When Beyoncé returned with her sophomore set, B’Day, things had changed, and she had proved herself to be a superstar in her own right and a hitmaker outside of the band that made her famous.
20 years later, B’Day is back on the charts all around the world. Beyoncé recently released a twentieth-anniversary edition of the set, which comes with a handful of new recordings, including lead single “Morning Dew (Donk).” The chart-topper released that track several weeks back, and now B’Day becomes a bestseller and streaming win all around the planet – again.
In the United Kingdom, Beyoncé’s two-decade-old full-length returns to multiple tallies and debuts on several. And while it is certainly a special win, B’Day also brings the powerhouse to a new low on at least one roster.
Beyoncé’s B’Day Debuts on Three U.K. Charts
B’Day debuts on three rankings in the U.K. this week, opening at Nos. 13, 15 and 74 on the Official Vinyl Albums, Official Albums Sales and Official Albums Streaming charts, respectively. The twentieth-anniversary reissue earns Beyoncé her fourth placement on the vinyl tally and her fifth on the sales-only roster. Notably, B’Day becomes her milestone tenth appearance on the Official Albums Streaming ranking.
B’Day Brings Beyoncé to a New Streaming Low
While B’Day pushes Beyoncé into double-digit wins on the Official Albums Streaming chart, the set also establishes a new low for the singer-songwriter. Before this week, that distinction belonged to I Am… Yours: An Intimate Performance, which arrived on the streaming tally in January 2016 and peaked at No. 52. B’Day launches considerably lower at No. 74.
The set performs much better on the Official Albums Sales chart, where it enters the race at No. 15, though Beyoncé’s releases typically climb even higher. Of her five projects to reach the roster, three — Lemonade, Renaissance and Cowboy Carter — have all hit No. 1. Only Homecoming: The Live Album peaked in a less impressive position than B’Day, as it stalled at No. 39.
Beyoncé Misses the Vinyl Top 10 for the First Time
B’Day is Beyoncé’s first release to miss the top 10 on the Official Vinyl Albums chart. Lemonade landed the superstar her first appearance on the format-specific tally when it arrived in September 2017 and peaked at No. 3.
Both Renaissance and Cowboy Carter went even higher and spent time at No. 1. B’Day comes in a few spaces beneath that important tier at No. 13, and Beyoncé now claims a fourth career win on the ranking – but her first that does not immediately become a top 10 success.
Beyoncé’s B’Day Returns to No. 1
On this week’s Official Hip Hop and R&B Albums chart, which details the most popular releases in the U.K. that fall under those styles, B’Day is back in charge. The album reenters at No. 1, earning its second stay at the summit.
B’Day originally launched in first place on the genre-specific roster in September 2006. The collection remained on the tally for months before disappearing in April 2007, and two decades later, it finally returns to the roster – and in the peak position, no less.
B’Day Finds Its Way Back to Three More U.K. Rankings
B’Day also breaks back onto another three charts in the U.K. this week, and the album has found its way into the top five on all of them in the past. The set reenters the Official Physical Albums, Official Album Downloads and Official Albums charts at Nos. 14, 30 and 31, respectively.
