Topline

Billionaire popstar Taylor Swift and her NFL fiancé Travis Kelce are reportedly set to celebrate their wedding in a two-day affair at Madison Square Garden this week that involves street closures, truckloads worth of decor and a black tie dress code—but may not actually include a marriage.

Key Facts

Details have been slowly leaking about the celebrity wedding of the year since the New York Times first reported permits and street closures associated with an event at Madison Square Garden were tied to the couple, who’ve been planning their nuptials since getting engaged last August.

Swift and Kelce are hosting an event in the Garden’s Infosys Theater for 100 people on Thursday, reported to be a rehearsal dinner, and a larger, black-tie event in the arena Friday for between 500 to 999 attendees, according to the city permits.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani made a minor quip about the event in a public service announcement issued about the region’s ongoing heatwave Wednesday, including a reference to someone “renting out MSG to get married, hypothetically.”

Celebrity wedding planner Mark Seed, who also coordinated the wedding of Jennifer Lawrence and Swift’s close friend Jack Antonoff to actress Margaret Qualley, has been tied to the event and truckloads of decor, including boxes labeled “trees” and shrink-wrapped packages the size of cars, were seen being unloaded into the venue Tuesday.

Boxes labeled “Garden Party 1 (scenic)” were spotted on their way into the Garden, which fits the speculation of several A-list wedding planners who’ve said they think the couple will completely transform the arena to be an unrecognizable romantic, flower-filled space.

The sure-to-be star-studded guest list is rumored to include Antonoff, the Haim sisters, Selena Gomez, Gracie Abrams, Sabrina Carpenter, Stevie Knicks and Tim McGraw, but the only people who’ve had their invites confirmed so far are Ed Sheeran, George Kittle, Andy Reid and Suki Waterhouse.

Reports suggest Knicks and McGraw (who Swift released her first hit single about at age 16) will perform at the wedding, and Swift herself joked in the past it would be “hard to stop” Sheeran from taking the stage.

WHAT WE DON’T KNOW

Much of anything else. Speculation is running rampant around the event but most details—including vendors, fashion designers, guests and entertainment—remain completely under wraps. Guests, vendors and security have all reportedly signed nondisclosure agreements and won’t be allowed to take cameras or cell phones into the event.

CONTRA

A passionate faction of Swift supporters think the MSG wedding is the larger, public celebration of a more intimate ceremony in which the pair actually tied the knot. Some, including the aide who helped plan John F. Kennedy Jr’s secret wedding, think the Garden speculation is a complete cover and that no wedding will take place there at all, while others think it’s simply the afterparty for the exchange of actual vows that happened (or will happen) privately to maintain intimacy and dodge the media.

CRUCIAL QUOTE

“Anyone that I’ve ever talked to [is invited],” Swift joked about her wedding in an interview with Graham Norton last year before quickly adding, “I shouldn’t have said any of that.”

SURPRISING FACT

Prince William, whom Swift and Kelce met once at an Eras Tour show in London—and his wife Princess Catherine were reportedly invited to the wedding, but won’t be attending.

KEY BACKGROUND

Swift, the world’s richest female musician with an estimated net worth of $2.1 billion, and Kelce started dating in 2023 and announced their engagement last August in an Instagram post captioned, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” Kelce proposed with an antique, elongated cushion-cut diamond set in yellow gold designed by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry, a small business based in New York, and speculation about the wedding has been swirling ever since. Rumors have ranged from a small, fairytale wedding at her house in Rhode Island to an intimate New York City celebration with no plus-ones before the Garden buzz took center stage.
