In the weeks following her death, Dolly Parton’s music has returned to charts all around the world in a major way. That kind of showing is common whenever a musical superstar dies, as millions of people turn to streaming platforms and download stores like iTunes to buy, or at the very least listen to, the songs and albums that they love and which endeared them to the late great artist.
Typically, that surge lasts a week, sometimes two. But in the case of a powerhouse like Parton, it can extend much longer.
In the United Kingdom this frame, many of Parton’s releases that recently shot north on various tallies begin to descend. At the same time, she posthumously scores a new top 10 win on an albums ranking where she remains the queen.
Dolly Parton Scores Another Top 10 Album in the U.K.
Original Album Classics debuts on just one U.K. chart this week, and it immediately becomes another top 10 success for Parton. The collection opens at No. 7 on the Official Country Compilations list, which ranks the most popular compilation albums classified as country throughout the nation.
Parton has now sent 19 projects to the Official Country Compilations tally, and every single one of them has spent at least one turn inside the top 10. Most of those releases have reached No. 1, but Original Album Classics is one of only two titles to stall at No. 7. It matches the high point that the simply-titled Dolly has already managed.
Original Album Classics Doubles Its U.K. Chart Count
Original Album Classics has now appeared on only two U.K. rankings throughout its history – a sum that doubles this week as it reaches the Official Country Compilations list for the first time.
The collection originally arrived on the Official Country Artists Albums chart – a very similar genre-specific ranking – in April 2008. Original Album Classics launched at No. 13 and eventually worked its way one spot higher, which remains its all-time high on that tally.
Dolly Parton Nearly Fills the Entire Top 10
The Official Country Compilations chart currently includes only 19 spaces – it appears that there is a glitch with the Official Charts Company, as the roster almost always features 20 positions – and even with one spot apparently missing, Parton occupies almost half of all available real estate and nearly the entire top 10. Her name appears in each of the highest eight spaces on the ranking this time around.
As The Very Best Of remains at No. 1, the set reaches 120 weeks atop the tally. The singles project is easily Parton’s longest-running champion on the Official Country Compilations chart.
Here are all of Dolly Parton’s wins on this week’s Official Country Compilations chart.
- No. 1 – The Very Best Of
- No. 2 – Diamonds & Rhinestones – Greatest Hits
- No. 3 – The Essential
- No. 4 – Smoky Mountain DNA – Family, Faith and Fables
- No. 5 – The Complete Trio Collection with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris
- No. 6 – Live from London
- No. 7 – Original Album Classics
- No. 8 – Ultimate
- No. 13 – We Found It / Please Don’t Stop Loving Me with Porter Wagoner
Dolly Parton Charts 11 Albums in the U.K.
11 albums by Parton appear on at least one roster across the Atlantic this week. Almost all of them can be found on the Official Country Compilations chart, and most of those titles land nowhere else.
That is not true for a handful of fan favorites. Diamonds & Rhinestones: The Greatest Hits remains on several rankings at once, including the Official Albums, Official Albums Streaming, Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums charts. The compilation is a bestseller and a streaming success, even as some of its recent posthumous gains begin to fade.
The Very Best Of also occupies multiple tallies. In addition to continuing its lengthy reign on the Official Country Compilations chart, the collection is still a bestseller on several other sales-focused lists.
