Ella Langley makes history this week, something she’s been doing for months at this point on the Billboard charts. “Choosin’ Texas” is once again the biggest song in the United States, as the track is steady atop the Billboard Hot 100, the list of the most-consumed cuts of any style in the nation, and it’s been holding court there throughout much of 2026.
As “Choosin’ Texas” rules once more, the woman behind one of the most successful songs in U.S. history matches perhaps the most important record ever – but that match likely won’t hold for very long. It could change in only a matter of days, and then again later this year, perhaps reversing, with one winner eventually trailing the other and then the opposite happening before 2027 arrives.
“Choosin’ Texas” Ties the Billboard Hot 100 Record
“Choosin’ Texas” earns its twenty-second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this frame. The tally ranks the most popular cuts in the nation, blending radio airplay, streams and sales. “Choosin’ Texas” is a major winner across all three metrics yet again.
Langley’s track is only the second out of more than 1,000 No. 1s in Billboard Hot 100 history to dominate for that length of time. Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” reached that figure earlier this year, as it reigned during the first tracking week of 2026 before stepping aside after another successful holiday surge.
Ella Langley Could Break the Record in Days
“Choosin’ Texas” will likely command the Billboard Hot 100 when Billboard publishes a new ranking in a few days. If that turns out to be the case, it will be the first track to lead for 23 periods, and there’s no telling how much longer it could continue its hold over the roster.
“Choosin’ Texas” could live at No. 1 for one more week, or perhaps several. At the rate it is going, and based on how well the country cut is streaming and selling – it remains at No. 1 on both Billboard’s Digital Song Sales and Streaming Songs rundowns – it’s impossible to predict just how sturdy Langley’s winner will be and how much distance it will put between itself and “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
Mariah Carey Could Reclaim the Record
While “Choosin’ Texas” may have a lock on the Billboard Hot 100’s penthouse, one that may continue for an undetermined length of time, that doesn’t mean Langley’s record is safe.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” racked up its 22 weeks at No. 1 by returning to the summit every year since 2019, when it first climbed all the way to the peak position. More than two decades into its popularity, alterations in how the Billboard Hot 100 is compiled, the introduction of streaming platforms and the fact that radio stations across the nation change formats and play only holiday hits in the month of December have turned “All I Want for Christmas Is You” into an inescapable annual No. 1.
That sort of showing has never occurred before and may never happen again. But it seems almost certain that Carey will add to her historic figure in the coming months.

“All I Want for Christmas Is You” may very well bound back to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in December. It could land one more week at No. 1, or it could rack up several. It all depends not so much on whether Americans are still in love with the tune, but what competition the carol faces.
Carey may very well reclaim the honor of having the longest-running No. 1 of all time later this year, but that depends on how much longer “Choosin’ Texas” leads the charge.
“Choosin’ Texas” Leads Five Billboard Rankings
Currently, “Choosin’ Texas” can be found on 11 Billboard charts, and it sits inside the top 10 on all but one of them. In addition to ruling the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the Streaming Songs and Digital Song Sales tallies, the smash also commands both the Hot Country Songs and Country Streaming Songs charts. “Choosin’ Texas” keeps at its all-time peak on several other rundowns and hits a new high on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., rising one spot from No. 33 to No. 32.
