If the Beatles never appeared on a Billboard chart again, the group would likely always continue to be counted as one of the bestselling and top-performing musical acts in American history. There are cases when the Fab Four are completely missing from the musical rankings in the United States, but that drought never lasts for very long. This week, the Beatles return to multiple rosters, and notably with different titles, as listeners in the U.S. purchase one set and obviously prefer streaming another.
The Beatles’ 1 Returns to the Billboard 200
The Beatles compilation 1, which features most of the group’s most famous singles, reenters the Billboard 200 this time around. The ranking details the 200 most-consumed albums and EPs in the U.S., combining pure sales with streaming activity to determine where titles land, and once again, the hugely successful collection is present.
1 breaks back in at No. 190, only 10 spaces above the bottom of the roster. As it returns, the compilation extends its lead as the longest-charting Beatles set of all time on the Billboard 200, as it is now up to 556 weeks on the roster. 1 is one of a pair of projects from the group, alongside Abbey Road, that have spent more than 500 frames as one of the 200 most-consumed collections of any style and any length in the nation.
The Beatles’ Abbey Road Becomes a Bestseller Again
Over on the Top Album Sales chart, Abbey Road is a bestseller again, but only barely. The classic masterpiece is back at No. 50, in the lowest rung possible.
Just like 1 on the Billboard 200, Abbey Road easily stands out as the longest-running success by the Beatles on the ranking of the top-selling releases of any kind in the nation. Abbey Road is now up to 326 weeks as a bestseller, while 1 trails at 276 stints on the same rundown.
Two Beatles Albums Make Quiet Comebacks
Both 1 and Abbey Road only appear on a single roster in America at the moment, and they both return in what has become a relatively quiet comeback for the Beatles on the Billboard charts.
1 conquered the Billboard 200 for eight weeks, beginning in December 2000 when it launched at the summit. For most acts, that would be a career-best showing, but the Beatles saw many sets hold on the ranking for much longer. In fact, four albums by the rock outfit commanded the most competitive albums ranking in the U.S. for double-digit periods.
Abbey Road shockingly only reached No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart once. The masterpiece debuted in December 2009 and, almost exactly a decade later, finally earned its first turn at the summit.
1, meanwhile, racked up eight stays on the throne. That’s exactly as long as the other half-dozen Beatles No. 1s on the Top Album Sales chart combined – yet it trails Abbey Road in terms of most time spent on the register.
Nine Albums Return to the Billboard 200 This Week
Nine albums reenter the Billboard 200 this week, and 1 is the sixth-loftiest comeback of that bunch. On the Top Album Sales tally, 11 titles break back in. That represents more than 20% of the entire roster, and Abbey Road is the worst performer of the roundup.
