Ted Lasso seemed like it was going to wrap up after season 3, a somewhat logical ending for the series based on its original arc. Well, this is Apple TV, and it does nothing else if not endlessly renew its shows. Hence, we now have the return of Ted Lasso for season 4, serving as what is effectively a reboot of the series for Ted and at least part of the old crew.

Now, the reviews are in. A lot of critics have been paying attention to the launch, and nearly sixty have chimed in. That has led to a very solid 89% Rotten Tomatoes review score, indicating this actually may not have been a bad idea after all.

How does that stack up to the rest of the Ted Lasso seasons before this? We have:

  • Ted Lasso season 1 – 92% critic score
  • Ted Lasso season 2 – 98% critic score
  • Ted Lasso season 3 – 81% critic score
  • Ted Lasso season 4 – 89% critic score.

The overall score of the series now is a 90%, so season 4 is right on that mark. Season 4 took a risk by separating itself from a ton of core cast members, given that it’s a new women’s team now. That includes Jamie Tartt, Sam Obisanya, Dani Rojas and Isaac McAdoo. Also Nate Shirley and Dr. Sharon Fieldstone. I was wondering if Hannah Waddingham would return for season 4 as Rebecca Walton, given that she is currently starring in a #1, 98% scored comedy on Amazon Prime, Ride or Die, but she managed to make time for both.
