President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson are scheduled to meet with executives from top AI companies next week, according to multiple reports, in a gathering that comes as the president has dismissed calls to regulate or slow the development of advanced AI models despite safety fears flagged by companies and researchers.

The meeting, which was first reported by Axios and later confirmed by other outlets, is set to take place on Tuesday.
It’s unclear which AI executives will be attending the meeting, but several prominent figures from the industry attended Thursday’s state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House—including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
OpenAI President Greg Brockman, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, SpaceXAI CEO Elon Musk, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang were also present at the state dinner.
The meeting next week comes amid a growing push from lawmakers from both parties to regulate AI, something both Johnson and Trump have indicated they are not keen to do.
What Has Mike Johnson Said About Congress Regulating AI?
After an ex-Anthropic researcher issued stark warnings about the catastrophic dangers posed by rapid development of AI, lawmakers from both parties called for Congress to intervene quickly. However, Johnson dismissed the possibility of any quick legislative action, telling CNN: “If Congress just races in and does some sort of emergency session to try to regulate AI, we will lose the race to China; that is a threat to every single American.” The House Speaker, however, acknowledged the need for a White House meeting between company officials, the president and other leaders in Washington. “They probably should be summoned together at the White House. And I think we need to go in a big room, close the door, and sort this out.”
What Has Trump Said About AI Safety Fears?
Trump has repeatedly dismissed concerns about AI safety, calling it a “hoax.” Shortly after AI researchers went public with their concerns, Trump said his main concern was “that if we don’t win AI, we’re going to be put in a very bad position.” He also added that the U.S. was “leading China” by “a lot” in the domain. A few days later, the president railed against people calling for regulation or a slowdown on Truth Social, saying there was a “SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers.” He also insisted that the U.S. already has “tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies.” In a follow-up post, Trump wrote: “AI taking over the World, destroying Humanity, and all other things bad, is a HOAX, no different from RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA — UKRAINE, UKRAINE, UKRAINE — IMPEACHMENT HOAX #1 — IMPEACHMENT HOAX #2 — and all of the other HOAXES and SCAMS that America was forced to endure.”
