The End of Oak Street, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, premiered in theaters this weekend and will likely debut on digital streaming in the usual timeframe it takes Warner Bros. films to pivot to digital streaming.
The film stars Hathaway and McGregor as Denise and Greg Platt, who, with their teen daughter (Maisy Stella) and pre-teen son (Christian Convery), appear to be living a happy, idyllic life in suburban Detroit in 1982.
Behind closed doors, though, the couple is suffering from marital woes, but they must quickly get on the same page if their family is to survive a cosmic event that transports their neighborhood back to prehistoric times and vicious dinosaurs who want to stomp them out of existence.
Written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, The End of Oak Street is produced by J.J. Abrams. The film is projected to open with $21 million in ticket sales for a No. 3 debut at the domestic box office against an $80 million production budget before prints and advertising costs, according to Variety.
Right now, the only way you can see The End of Oak Street is in theaters, so check your local listings for showtimes. When the movie comes to the home entertainment marketplace, the first place audiences will be able to watch the dinosaur thriller is on digital streaming via premium video on demand.
Warner Bros. generally follows a five-weekend theatrical-to-PVOD model, or about 31-32 days. For example, the Warner Bros. releases Lee Cronin’s The Mummy and Mortal Kombat II both debuted on digital streaming five weekends after their respective theatrical premieres. However, the studio’s most recent theatrical release, Evil Dead Burn, arrived on PVOD on Aug. 4, only four weekends (25 days) after its July 10 release.
Given that The End of Oak Street has a much bigger production budget to chip away at (as well as P&A) than Evil Dead Burn ($20 million before P&A), the film will likely follow Warner Bros. PVOD strategy and play on the big screen for five weekends before hitting digital. As such, viewers can look for The End of Oak Street to arrive on PVOD on Sept. 15, since new movies arrive on digital streaming on Tuesdays.
New films on PVOD are typically available on such digital platforms as Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube Movies & TV. New PVOD releases are generally available to purchase anywhere between $19.99 and $29.99, or to rent for a 48 hours between $14.99 and $24.99.
How Soon Will ‘The End Of Oak Street’ Arrive On HBO Max?
Since The End of Oak Street is a Warner Bros. release, the film’s Pay-1 window on streaming video on demand will be on Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming platform HBO Max.
Since there is generally a 77-day theatrical-to-SVOD window for Warner Bros. films to appear on HBO Max (Lee Cronin’s The Mummy and Mortal Kombat II followed the pattern), The End of Oak Street should arrive on the streaming platform on Oct. 30, since new film releases typically debut on HBO Max on Fridays.
Rated PG-13, The End of Oak Street is new in theaters.
