Dubbed by CBS as “the biggest season yet,” the new season of Big Brother is almost here. The long-running reality competition premieres Thursday, July 9, introducing a new group of houseguests that viewers can follow around the clock.
Julie Chen Moonves returns as host of the hit series, which follows contestants living together in a custom-built house equipped with more than 100 cameras and 100 microphones. Completely cut off from the outside world, the houseguests are under constant surveillance as every conversation, strategy session, and competition is captured 24 hours a day.
This season’s theme is “Time Trip,” which takes houseguests on a journey through different nostalgic eras, from the 1980s to Y2K, with time-inspired twists, competitions and lots of surprises.
According to CBS, “houseguests will enter a world where rooms, relics and competitions transport them across moments in time, while early twists shake up the game from the start.” The house will be equipped with a Time-Bending Entryway, Living Room of Eras, Clockwork Bathroom, an Artifact Bedroom and Futuristic Sleep Pods Room.
Throughout the season, the houseguests compete in challenges, build alliances and navigate the game’s social dynamics in an effort to stay in the house. Each week, one contestant earns the title of Head of Household and is responsible for nominating two fellow players for eviction.
The remaining houseguests then cast their votes to decide which nominee will leave the game. The final contestant standing will take home the $750,000 grand prize.
Last year, 25-year-old Ashley Hollis won after securing a 6-to-1 jury verdict. Vince Panaro finished as runner-up, while Keanu Soto captured the title as America’s Favorite Houseguest.
Meet The Big Brother Season 28 Contestants
On July 7, CBS unveiled the 14 houseguests competing in the latest season of the reality series during a livestream.
This season’s cast includes a contestant from Survivor 50, a RuPaul’s Drag Race alum, a surgical dental assistant, a rocket scientist, a corporate game show host, an elementary school counselor and more.
“This new group of houseguests is stepping into a summer where nothing is as it seems, where every twist rewrites the rules, and where time becomes the ultimate twist,” CBS teased in a statement.
