Hamnet, a William Shakespeare-inspired historical drama starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, is coming soon to streaming video on demand on Peacock.
Hamnet opened in limited release on Nov. 27 and expanded to a wide release on Dec. 12, before making its digital streaming debut on premium video on demand on Feb. 3. The official logline for the film reads, “From Academy Award-winning writer/director Chloé Zhao, Hamnet tells the powerful story of love and loss that inspired the creation of Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece, Hamlet.”
Paul Mescal plays Shakespeare in Hamnet, while Buckley plays his wife, Agnes Hathaway (her real name, Anne, was changed to Agnes in author Maggie O’Farrell’s Hamnet novel and the movie). Co-produced by Stephen Spielberg and Sam Mendes, Hamnet also stars Emily Watson and Joe Alwyn.
According to Peacock, Hamnet will make its SVOD debut on the platform on Friday, March 6.
For viewers who don’t subscribe to Peacock, the SVOD platform offers the ad-based Peacock Premium plan for $10.99 per month or $109.99 per year, as well as the ad-free Peacock Premium Plus plan for $16.99 per month or $169.99 per year.
‘Hamnet’ Has Had A Huge Awards Season Presence
Hamnet has been a major awards season player in 2025 and 2026. The film will be vying for eight Oscars at the 2026 Academy Awards on March 15 in such categories as Best Picture, Best Director (Chloé Zhao), Best Actress (Jessie Buckley) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Zhao and Maggie O’Farrell).
The film is also up for three Actor Awards in the Motion Picture category on Sunday, including Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Cast, Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role (Buckley) and Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role (Paul Mescal).
Hamnet also was nominated for Producer of the Year by the Producers Guild of America and Best Director (Zhao) by the Directors Guild of America.
In addition, Hamnet won Best Motion Picture (Drama) and Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) for Buckley at the 2026 Golden Globes, as well as a Best Actress win for Buckley at the 2026 Critics’ Choice Awards.
Buckley also earned a Best Actress win at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards, and the organization also awarded Hament with its Best British Film trophy.
Rated PG-13, Hamnet is new on streaming video on demand on Peacock on Friday.
