FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick wants to stay at the club and remains the best man for the job.

At his prematch press conference on Tuesady, Hansi Flick revealed that he wishes to stay at FC Barcelona.
Though an expected contract extension for mid-2028 expiry is yet to be signed, Flick “wants the Champions League and to stay until the stadium is finished”.
In its current state, the Spotify Camp Nou holds 62,000 punters and will be completed in 2027 according to Mundo Deportivo.
As we also know, Flick has fallen short in Europe twice now. First in the semifinals to Inter Milan last term, and then as recent as a week ago in the quarterfinals, where Atletico Madrid administered a painful aggregate defeat in the Metropolitano despite the Blagurana winning 2-1 on the night.
Flick is the best man for the FC Barcelona job
Yet despite his continental shortcomings, Flick remains the right man for the job.
Previously, from 2019 to 2023, the Catalans went four years without winning La Liga until Xavi Hernandez put that right.
The 2023/2024 season was trophyless and spelled the end for Xavi alongside publicly claiming that the Blaugrana couldn’t compete with Real Madrid financially.
With pretty much the same squad, however, Flick swept a domestic treble in his first term. In 2025/2026, we won’t see that happen again. Yet with a nine-point advantage, it’s highly likely that the Spanish top flight crown remains in Catalonia for the second year running while joining another Super Cup in the cabinet.
Not that Xavi didn’t having come through it himself. And likewise he deserves praise for promoting the likes of Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi and Fermin Lopez.
Yet despite being an outsider, Flick understands La Masia and is a heavy promoter of youth talent.
The kind of Cruyffista that President Joan Laporta loves, his style – though some find the defensive high line too risky – fits the club’s philosophy.
It’s always better to win 5-4 than 1-0, as Cruyff himself once said.
Flick wants FC Barcelona to be his last club
At the press conference that previewed Wednesday’s La Liga clash with Celta Vigo, Flick once again reiterated that “this is going to be my last step in my career”.
He wishes Barca to be his final club, and aged 61, a couple more years in the Spotify Camp Nou hotseat might be the end of a storied career.
Having already tried international management with Germany, Catalonia could be the end of the road for Flick meaning Culers have to enjoy the ride while it lasts.
Hopefully at least one of those guaranteed two additional seasons – providing everything goes well – deliver long-awaited European glory for FC Barcelona.
