The Pitt finished up another 15-episode a month ago, but now more information is starting to trickle out about season 3 thanks to star Noah Wyle himself.
Wyle has confirmed when season 3 will take place in the timeline of The Pitt:
“It’s set in early November, just before the holidays, ushering in a whole new set of emergencies and confrontations and complications.”
Previously, we were told that The Pitt would not be doing another holiday day as they did with the Fourth of July, and this will be early November instead, a chilly period in Pittsburgh, usually. And this does take place in the same year as season 2, so four months later.
The biggest departure from the cast was revealed a while ago, that Supriya Ganesh’s Dr. Mohan would not return for season 3. Fans noted that if the new season was just five months later, real-time, she should not have finished with that year on service, but the explanation from the show has simply been “she’s not working that day.” We have no other confirmation of departing cast members, and once again, the “big four” of young cast members, King, Whittaker, Javadi and Santos are all returning, even though they might be the most at risk of rotating out. We don’t know about new additions Ogilvie and Kwon, though it has been confirmed that new nurse Emma Nolan will return.
There has been some funny back and forth about the idea of The Pitt: Night Shift, with Noah Wyle saying we see “enough” of the night shift on the show, while Shawn Hatosy, who would lead the series, has said multiple times he’d love to see that spinoff. But nothing official on that front.
In terms of a release date, Wyle confirms that they are about to start production on season 3 of the show, again, this being just a month after season 2 ended. Production on season 2 actually started in mid-June, so we are ahead of schedule. As such, it’s almost certain that once again, we will get an early January release date, as seasons 1 and 2 were just one day apart, January 9 and January 8. So if we’re doing Thursday, this year that season 3 release date would be January 7.
The Pitt is once again on the road to a bunch of Emmy nominations after a number of wins last year, including Best Actor for Noah Wyle and Best Drama. Season 2, by most accounts, did not drop in quality, and we may be about to see a generational run of yearly releases that we essentially never see in the streaming space. And 15-episode seasons, to boot. We’ll probably start getting trailers within the month at this rate.
