Pierre Deny, a longtime French actor who appeared in the hit Netflix series Emily in Paris, has died.
Deny died Monday after suffering from complications of nervous system disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (frequently referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease in the U.S.), his daughters said in a statement to the French press agency AFP (via Entertainment Weekly). He was 69.
“It is with deep emotion that we announce the passing of Pierre Deny, which occurred this Monday following a sudden and severe case of ALS,” the statement reads.
ALS is the same disease suffered by Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria actor Eric Dane, who died in Feburary at age 53.
Deny, starred opposite Lily Collins’ Emily as Louis de Léon, the CEO of the fictional fashion giant JVMA in Emily in Paris. The actor appeared in one episode of Emily in Paris Season 3 in 2022, followed by guest roles in two episodes in 2024.

Pierre Deny Mostly Appeared On French Television
Pierre Deny, whose screen career began in 1982, largely starred in French productions throughout his career. Per the actor’s IMDb profile, the actor appeared in 313 episodes of the French daytime drama Tomorrow is Ours, from 2017 to 2023.
Deny’s other credits include recurring turns on the shows Les nouvelles filles d’à côté (1995-96), Under the Sun (1998), Une femme d’honneur (1999-2008), Cinq soeurs (2008), Nouvelle Maud (2010-12) and Plus belle la vie (2013).
The actor’s film credits include the 2012 Juliette Binoche comedy drama Another Woman’s Life, as well as the French TV movies Murder on Omaha Beach (2018) and Fatal Reunion (2022).
Among Deny’s colleagues who paid tribute to the actor were Sylvie Vartan, who wrote on Instagram (and interpreted by EW), “I have just learned with great sadness of the passing of Pierre Deny. I shared some wonderful moments with him on stage in Isabelle Mergault’s play. He was a generous actor and a sensitive and funny man. In these painful moments, all my thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”
Deny’s last screen appearance was in 2025 in an episode of the French comedy series Camping Paradise. Deny’s appearance on Camping Paradise last year marked his first return to the show after a guest turn in 2012.
