Key Facts
Trump reposted a tweet from “Red Eagle Updates,” a profile on X that says it follows the “Trump movement & American politics.”
The tweet shared a fake statement from Washington about Trump that said, “I’ve never met anyone braver, smarter, or who cares more about America than Donald Trump.”
“He’s a great friend and an even better president,” the fake endorsement said, adding, “I’m proud to be a steadfast supporter, and I’ll never apologize for it.”
Trump did not caption his repost, which was debunked as an incorrect attribution by fact-checking platform Snopes.
Snopes noted it had previously debunked memes attributing the exact endorsement quote to actor Matthew McConaughey and musician Mick Jagger.
Forbes has reached out to a representative for Washington.

Key Background
Washington is not an overtly political actor. He criticized the left and the right sides of the political spectrum in a 2024 interview with The Times, saying both political sides were using advancements in information technology to manipulate people. Washington added, “We’re all slaves to information now,” urging people to “realize you’re being manipulated by both sides.” The actor also told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017 during Trump’s first term as president that “we, as Americans, need to unite and to hold all of our elected officials’ feet to the fire as it relates to working together.”
