Hansi Flick has essentially given the green light to FC Barcelona’s potential approach of Bernardo Silva according to RAC1, which cited anonymous sources.

The Manchester City legend’s contract will expire on June 30, and it’s already been announced that he’ll depart the Etihad alongside John Stones and Pep Guardiola.

In recent weeks, Silva has been heavily linked to Atletico Madrid but also Barça, who tried and failed to land the Portuguese in 2022 and 2023 during the Xavi Hernandez era.

Barça couldn’t raise Silva’s reported $58.2 million (€50 million) price tag at the time, but the situation is completely different now that he’s available free of charge.

As reported at the weekend, however, Flick needed to give his blessing to a pursuit of Silva despite the board and the player both being keen on the potential operation.

Flick sees a place for Bernardo Silva at FC Barcelona

According to Catalan radio station RAC1, Flick views Silva’s potential arrival with “good eyes” as the Spanish phrase goes.

As is already well known, though, Barça need departures to happen before being able to incorporate the 31-year-old.

At present, the most likely candidates to leave in midfield or on the wings where Silva can operate are Marc Casado and Roony Bardghji.

Also reported this morning, the latter Swede is being linked with a loan to Ajax while Casado has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia and AS Monaco where Ansu Fati has enjoyed a highly successful temporary assignment in 2025/2026.

Silva is particularly attractive for a number of reasons. First of all, he could arrive at the Spotify Camp Nou free of charge and without the need for a transfer fee. He’s also prepared to lower his salary demands significantly, in order to make what has been described as a dream move.

Secondly is his winning pedigree which saw him lift the Champions League and no fewer than six Premier League titles alongside a string of domestic honours.

In the same vein as someone like Eric Garcia or Gavi, though, Bernardo Silva is also capable of playing a number of positions in midfield or attack providing Flick with the versatility the German values highly in his squad.
