‘MobLand’ Stars Were ‘Blindsided’ By Tom Hardy Feud Reports

‘MobLand’ season 2 is out today, and stars Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren are speaking out about the Tom Hardy drama, and how they weren’t a part of it.

There was a very odd period of MobLand news ahead of season 2, focused on season 3 and Tom Hardy’s likelihood of returning. Now, some of the main cast members are speaking out about the situation now that it’s all been resolved and have said they were misrepresented during the entire affair.

There were first reports that Hardy was actually fired ahead of season 3, then others that said he was getting into it with the show’s veteran actors like Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. They say that is not the case in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

“I think we’re all blindsided by it, really,” said Brosnan. “It was my son who sent me the text one morning. I was away on vacation, and I couldn’t believe it. I reached out to Tom, saying, ‘I love you, mate. I love you.’ And he and I, you know, we communicate. He’s a painter. I’m a painter. Both actors. But anyway, just to say, ‘I’m there. We’re there. We love you.’ So for me, it was kind of a storm in a teacup.”

“We live in the world of being talked about and interviewed in newspapers and so on and so forth. Pierce and I have both had many years of this and experience of it,” Mirren said. “False rumors just should be knocked on the head ASAP, which is why I did my post about Tom, not for Tom, but my absolutely genuine love of Tom.”

Mirren goes on to say that Hardy not returning was never even “contemplated.” Brosnan continued, “Tom is MobLand. Without Tom, we don’t have MobLand.”

It was confirmed on Sept. 3 that yes, Tom Hardy was officially returning for MobLand season 3, which is scheduled to start filming in November. A pre-season 2 renewal for season 3 combined with early filming is meant to create a relatively short gap between seasons, moving away from typical streaming delays. The first two seasons were about a year-and-a-half apart.

MobLand is a key series for Paramount+, having previously set viewership records and being a rare hit outside the vast Taylor Sheridan catalog. Paramount will need those kinds of hits when Sheridan moves on in a few more years after taking a deal with NBCUniversal. Practically all of Paramount’s other top shows are from him. MobLand season 2 is out today and will air weekly for 10 episodes. We’ll see how it’s received both among audiences and in terms of the viewership it hauls in this time.
