Taylor Swift is in the middle of one of the most successful years of her career on the Billboard Hot 100 – which is saying a lot, considering how many records she’s broken on the list of the most popular songs in the United States – and she may soon manage a feat that only a relatively small number of artists have managed in the decades-long history of the tally. The superstar has sent multiple new songs to No. 1 in 2026, and another fan favorite also returned to the summit during the first weeks of the year.
Recently, Swift announced a new single titled “Patient Zero,” which is scheduled to drop September 25. If the tune follows a pattern set by several of her recent releases and debuts atop the Billboard Hot 100, it will do much more than simply add another champion to her historic career total.
Taylor Swift Could Score Three New No. 1 Hits In 2026
Swift has earned two newly-minted Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s this year. “Opalite” climbed to the summit in February, while “I Knew It, I Knew You” debuted in first place in June.
Two new leaders in one calendar year matches Swift’s personal best. She first accomplished that showing in 2014 with “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space.” A little more than half a decade later, she repeated it in 2020 with “Cardigan” and “Willow,” and then again in 2023 with “Cruel Summer” and “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) [From the Vault].”
She has never collected three new No. 1s in a single calendar year – but that might change in October. If “Patient Zero” opens in first place, 2026 will become the first year in Swift’s career to produce a trio of new Billboard Hot 100 champions.
Four Taylor Swift Songs Could Rule In One Year
There is another way to measure Swift’s 2026 success, and by that count she is already enjoying an especially successful year. “The Fate of Ophelia” first debuted at No. 1 in October 2025, but its run stretched into the following year. After Christmas music temporarily took over the Billboard Hot 100, the smash returned to the summit and led the way on the charts dated January 10 and January 17.
Three different Swift songs have already occupied the No. 1 during 2026: “The Fate of Ophelia,” “Opalite” and “I Knew It, I Knew You.” Swift has only matched that showing once before. In 2023, “Anti-Hero” returned to No. 1 after beginning its reign the previous year, while “Cruel Summer” and “Is It Over Now?” both reached the summit for the first time.
A No. 1 debut for “Patient Zero” would therefore give Swift four different chart-toppers in 2026 alone – more than she has ever managed in any other calendar year.
Taylor Swift Might Earn Her Sixteenth Career No. 1
“Patient Zero” could also move several of Swift’s career totals forward. “I Knew It, I Knew You” became her fifteenth Billboard Hot 100 champion and her ninth song to debut at No. 1. Another immediate ruler would lift those figures to 16 career leaders and 10 chart-topping debuts. Swift already sits alone in third place among acts with the most No. 1 singles in Billboard Hot 100 history, behind only the Beatles and Mariah Carey, with 20 and 19, respectively. The singer-songwriter has nine No. 1 debuts to her credit, a figure that may turn to double digits very soon.
