While Rockstar has just spent a week dealing with a flood of Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks, the show must go on, and that show is the GTA 6 Netflix Extended Look, which arrives at 3 PM ET today, with it going up on YouTube 6 hours later at 9 PM ET. However, even before that, a big story dropped revealing a whole lot of new information.
That would be a Dazed issue that has an extensive look at GTA 6, revealing the most information about the game we’ve had to this point. At least up until 3 PM today. There are a lot of reveals here showing just how wide and deep GTA 6 is going to be.
- The “Bonnie and Clyde” relationship of Jason and Lucia is front and center both in story and gameplay. You can play as a couple or go independent in gameplay, or switch seamlessly between the two, even on the same mission. Even in the same car. We also get at least some minor backstory on the two: Jason is a drug runner and was formerly in the military. Lucia is a fighter recently released from prison.
- Choices in the game are meant to be much more in-depth than in past games and will heavily influence the story. That includes choices within the relationship of Jason and Lucia itself.
- There is more realism in terms of how the world reacts to your character compared to past games. As in, NPCs are going to take notice if you are just running down the street holding an assault rifle, where previously they may have only reacted if you started shooting it.
- In terms of the visuals of Jason and Lucia, an exercise system returns where you can build muscle through working out or gain weight with some binge eating and poor lifestyle choices. And if your poor lifestyle involves running around causing chaos on no sleep, that will reflect in the look of your character.
- Cosmetically, there are loads of options for Jason and Lucia, though Rockstar wants the “essence of the characters” to remain. So no running around in a chicken suit or anything. Rockstar also designed the brands to be less one-off jokes and actually woven into the ecosystem of the game.
- Rockstar’s research for this took years, embedding developers in Miami and talking to real cops, criminals, gun dealers and other types of characters featured in the game. They went so far as to hire 50 street artists to design murals in the game (no GenAI there), and its vehicle-handling team includes actual race car drivers.
- Rockstar has now doubled in size since it made Red Dead Redemption 2 and has gone so far as to dedicate an entire studio to making NPCs alone, which it wants to be the most involved and immersive system in gaming history.
There will no doubt be even more revealed across the Netflix Extended Look today, and we’ll check back in a few hours with a much larger list of information.
