Adria Arjona’s ‘Onslaught’ Rotten Tomatoes Review Score Is In

Those keeping tabs on the DCU now almost universally believe that Andor actress Adria Arjona is going to be introduced to the universe as Wonder Woman in next year’s Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. Before that, however, Arjona is in a different, non-superhero action movie, Onslaught, out this weekend, and its Rotten Tomatoes review score is now in.

Right now, it seems to be a solid action feature. Onslaught has a 74% review score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics in a genre that can often produce some big bombs (see Gal Gadot’s actioner, The Runner, out this week with a 9% Rotten Tomatoes score). Onslaught’s score seems like it is somewhat solidified as there are a full 46 reviews in right now. It could change, but it seems like a worthwhile feature so far. Here’s the synopsis:

“When a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers break loose in the desert, a badass Army sniper must unleash hell to protect her young daughter.”

It’s grindhouse-style, over-the-top action and a good chance to showcase Arjona’s action chops. Her Instagram has been full of workout photos where she reiterates just how far she’s going to train for Man of Tomorrow, and obviously Onslaught as well to some extent. And I mean, Wonder Woman is a hyper strong Amazon.

Arjona’s highest-profile roles do not lean into the action genre that much, at least not to the extent of Onslaught, certainly. Her roles in Andor, Blink Twice and Hit Man are her most notable, and I see she also dabbled in the superhero genre with a part in Morbius, but we won’t hold that against her. But these next two films will take her into an entirely different genre. It reminds me a bit of what happened with Ana de Armas’ career trajectory, which got to the point where she had her own John Wick spinoff, Ballerina (which was very good).

Here’s what some critics are saying about Onslaught:

• Inverse: “Slick, giddy violence tiptoes right up to the edge of distasteful, only to slip on a puddle of blue slushy and juicy red squibs. It’s not like there’s much time to meditate on the futility of violence, anyway: Onslaught flies by at a compact 92 minutes.”
• The Hollywood Reporter: “Gloriously crafted if narratively undercooked, the action-thriller is a pretty good time. It’s just that it had seemed for a moment like it was going to be a great one.”

Is Onslaught worth a trip to the theater? That’s up to you, but if you want a good bloody action flick, this seems like a good one.
